Advertising and Personal Values
I just discovered that I don't know anything about today's society.
This of course came as a shock. I had thought that I was an informed
citizen but I now know otherwise. this enlightenment came at great cost in
time, and effort. The time was spent in watching television for an hour.
The effort was to not lose my sanity for unlike any other hour of TV, this
time I was forced to actually watch the commercials. The values that TV
presents seem to be different than what I was taught as a child.
Advertisers seem to present their own version of morality and values.
Their idea of morality might not coincide with ours, but it does sell their
products.
Wait, I just learned that if I buy my wife an anniversary band she
will know that I love her. But of course the band is a few thousand
dollars. Oh wait, easy financing is a valuable. Darn I missed the small
print that was flashed for two seconds on the bottom of the screen. Oh
well it must not have been important. Wont my wife love me even if I can't
afford to buy her this bracelet? I wonder if this is going to leave an
impression on anyone with an anniversary coming up? Could that be the
intention?
If I want to enjoy work I had better listen to the lite fm 93.9.,
and for lunch I can run out to Arby's for 99 cent roast beef sandwiches,
but only for a limited time. And if those roast beef sandwiches get me
sick I can go to Osco and get some medicine twenty-four hours a day. All
of these ads just came rapid fire. Is this playing upon my need for
instant gratification? Are the advertisers trying to get me to hurry?
I have to go see a Jeep dealer so I can outrun a bull in heat, but
I better be careful if I get it to dirty the pigs will fall in love with it.
Wow is that a nice Jeep, but what is the price anyway? And is it
practical to own a vehicle that can go anywhere on or off the road?

The scope of this paper is to investigate the Clean Air Act of 1970, and to analyze the impact it has on businesses and society. It provides a rationale for the policy, and contains a brief overview of governmental involvement in regulating air pollution. Further investigation identifies key stakeholders in business, government, and society, and assesses the pros and cons of regulating air pollution. Finally, the paper concludes with limitations of this analysis and recommendations for future action.

The Black Death was a devastating plague that raged across three continents between 1347 and 1351. Millions of people perished during this plague which upended feudal society and dramatically altered the social and political structures of Western Europe. The Black Death was a terrible and nasty disease. Almost all of the population of Europe died from this plague and the Black Death stunned many people in many communities. The Black Death had a social, and economically, effect on Europe for many years. The Black Death affected all the social groups in Europe from the least of all peasants, to the highest of all Kings.
Heath (2011) believes that “… it is emotional advertising that is most effective at building strong brands” (Heath, 2011, p. 120). Using relevant research and current examples of advertisements over the last few years, this essay will aim critically assess and investigate in to what the most effective method should be used in order to build a strong brand. Firstly, it is important to discover what the consumer behaviours are in relation advertisements, what factors are included in building a strong brand and why it is important to establish this in order to communicate effectively with the brands target market. One of the most significant ideas that came to my attention is the way the image of a woman is demonstrated in advertisements. Sometimes society is to blame for. There is a relationship between law and society. There are many differences with the legal system in the aspects of race, class, gender, values, and morals. Is this to say that women are held responsible for nudity in advertisements rather are women enjoying the sexuality in advertisements? It is complex to understand human society and culture however, women have always been discriminated. In this case, it is important to understand why women are the main instrument in advertisements. The structure of society plays a role in the display of a women’s body. The World Health Organization reported that the sexualization of women and girls is related to societal problems. These issues should be address to improve the physical and emotional welfare of women. According to Kilbourne, body positions, facial expressions, and sexual power relationship generate from violent pornography. Advertisements portray women of having less power than men. Studies have concluded the differences of power between a man and a woman. Women are degraded in Advertisements. Society is to be mention because of history. Dominick and Rauch examined 1,000 commercials on television and found that women are often shown as housewives. Gender has shown to be a major influence of discrimination. Failure to maintain clean air standards is attributed to the increased health cases of cancer and pulmonary related diseases. In addition, there is the effect of acidic rain which poisons the plants consumed that also has health effects. The financial burden is borne by health insurance and other costs in fighting the effects.

The world has a history of persuasion. There are many types of persuasion. Companies use advertisements to persuade consumers to use their products. Government officials and other politicians use persuasion to gain voters support. Militaries is all countries use persuasion to gain public support at the home front as well as the battlefield as well as persuade the public to fund or be in favor of was. Throughout history there have been many tactics used to persuade individuals. Some tactics like propaganda are looked at less favorably than others like public relations and advertisements.

The advertising world has been given a bad rap when it comes to ethical practices. There is no question that advertising can be controversial, as advertisers seem to continually push the boundaries of what is considered acceptable in society. It is common knowledge that an advertiser’s ultimate goal is to sell something. However, there are boundaries and the public will generally react negatively towards an advertisement if it is seen as offensive and discriminatory. Due to this, advertisers must consider classical ethical theories in their decision-making process when creating messages that the public will see.

In corporate America, it is obvious that the established goal of modern advertising is to achieve financial gain for the investing party. Advertising is the direct manipulation of consumers in order to motivate the support of ideas or purchase of the items being marketed. There are several marketing tactics used in successful advertising. Desire, competition, nostalgia, and a sense of urgency, are all key human emotions exploited during a commercial promotion. Advertising must make a connection with the targeted party in order to achieve its goal of the consumer responding and to take action (Lance and Woll 19-21). Isn’t it interesting that some of the most successful marketing ploys are presented as purely informational? It is through such advertising that the consumer can be easily duped into following direction provided by the presenting organization in order to protect or improve their lives.
