The Heroic Epic of Beowulf
In the course of time, many heroes have made their name and many stories
have been written to proclaim their greatness. However, none as captivating as
Beowulf. This Anglo-Saxon epic demonstrates it's power with beautiful language,
usage of kennings, metaphors, similes, and alliteration. Also, it gives wondrous
supernatural beings as in God, and even of powerful creatures as Grendel. On the
other hand, it has human struggles and afflictions.
The very first element that is discovered by reading this epic is the
lofty language that is used. Although, having read only and excerpt, the writing
is as glorious as the story itself. Alliteration usage and can easily recognized
in line 33, "He found them sprawled in sleep, suspecting nothing..." which
demonstrates the "s" sound. Another example of alliteration at work using the
"p" sound is line 160, "From my prince, no permission from my people for your
landing here."
Metaphors provide a distinct characteristic as in line 30 describing
terror as "darkness had dropped." Line 128 when sailing across the sea,
describing the seas "beating" on the sand. There are few similes but one that
stands out most in line 133. "The ship foamed through the sea like a bird..."
Using like to describe the similarity of the bird and how the ship traveled
across the sea. Probably the most important element of language are the
kennings which describe something simple so indirectly. Line 241 describes
darkness or night by stating how the moon hangs. Also line 325 describes Grendel
in two different kennings as one form of evil.
Every hero has their way of fighting evil or protecting from it. In order
to fight a supernatural being, one must have a superhuman power which brings us
to another characteristic of epic poetry. The very first supernatural being
described is the almighty God in lines 7-3 in the beginning. God is definitely
been a supernatural being because of his ability and powers that he possesses.
He is mostly associated with the Earth's origin and it's inhibitors. Monsters
are also form of supernatural being. In this epic Grendel provokes death and
cannibalizes human without thought but also enjoying it.
As the welcoming celebration for Beowulf goes on, Unferth begins to ridicule Beowulf about his swimming competition with Breca. Unferth is jealous and feels threatened by Beowulf " for he would not allow that any other man of middle-earth should ever achieve more glory under the heavens than himself." (Norton p. 33) Unferth is a very peculiar character. Although he has committed the horrific crime of killing his brother(s), he is privileged enough to sit at the feet of the king, a very respected position. His sin,an enormous violation of the comitatus, suggests that there is something wrong in Hrothgar's kingdom and perhaps helps to foreshadow its destruction. Ultimately, it will be destroyed, as the text says, by a fire after " sword-hate between son-in-law and father-in-law to awaken after murderous rage." (Norton p. 28).
There was a huge influence of both paganism and christianity that can be noticed in Old English Poetry. To better understand these two values, let us explain what paganism and christianity mean. Christianity is a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. As presented in New Thestament, Christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God and the Messiah prophesied in The Old Testament. Christianity began in the 1st century AD as a Jewish sect, and shares many religious texts with Judaism, specifically the Hebrew Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament. The name Christian means belonging to Christ or partisan of Christ. As far as Paganism is concerned, the word comes from latin paganus and means a country dweller, rustic. It is a term which has come to connote a broad set of spiritual or cultic practises or beliefs of any folk religion a nd of historical and contemprorary polytheism religious in particular. (...) Characteristic of pagan traditions in the anscence of proselytisation and presence of a living mythology which explains religious practice. The term Pagan is a Christian adaptation of the goy of Judaism.
There are two reasons why a firm may perform well in an industry, either 1) the industry is attractive to any firm 2) the firm is better and outperforms it’s rivals. Porter’s theory therefore can be used to discover the markets that are attractive to firms or, in those which aren’t breaking down the five forces so a strategy for success can be developed. In general the firm with be more profitable if each of the forces is low, that is to say there is a low threat of new firms entering, if buyers and suppliers have little power over the firm, if there is a low threat from substitute products and if competitive rivalry is low.
A hero is someone who is admired for their courage and bravery, as well as their noble accomplishments. They are respected by almost everyone, due to their kindness and charitable mindset, that drives them to fight for the good of others. Beowulf is the perfect representation of a hero, based on multiple characteristics that he displays throughout the novel. Along with his characteristics, Beowulf also takes on many “hero like” challenges and tasks. In the novel, Beowulf is praised and admired throughout the kingdom for his bravery, humility, and selflessness.
Angola's socialist turned capitalist market is full of such regulated areas where government intervened directly much to the disarray of the market. I can remember a time when you couldn't import tires into the country because Mabor the country's tire producing factory had the monopoly of the tire market. If a private company wanted to import tires they had to require an authorization from Mabor, which would result more than often in it being denied, or a request for a commission on the import wasn't uncommon either.

By definition, a tragic hero is a protagonist that due to some tragic flaw loses everything he has. Throughout history, literature has always been filled with main characters possessing some tragic flaw. In Macbeth, Macbeth’s tragic flaw is his enormous ambition to become king. In Hamlet, Hamlet’s tragic flaw is his need for revenge for the death of his father at the hands of his uncle. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh’s tragic flaw is his need to be remembered. In the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf, Beowulf also has a tragic flaw, excessive pride and the search for fame, which ultimately leads to his demise.
Google is an example of a business that employs an intrapreneurship approach, giving staff time for personal projects. As a result, Gmail was created and launched in 2004. Currently Gmail is one of the world’s most popular webmail

At September in 1998 Google sets up there first workspace in Susan Wojcicki's garage on Santa Margarita Ave., Menlo Park, Calif. In that same month Larry and Sergey hired their first employee, Craig Silverstein who was a grad student at Stanford who worked at Google more than 10 years before joining the education startup of Khan Academy. In December “PC magazines” announced that the people was going crazy with the Google search engine that was on the Top 100 Websites for 1998. From friendship to business partnerships, young Larry Page, 22, and Sergey Brin, 21, met in 1995 at Stanford University. The two young men had been working together on a search engine known as “BackRub” which ran on Standard University’s servers for over a year. The problem with the BackRub was it was taking up too much bandwidth space (amount of data that is carried from one point to another). Therefore, Page and Brin decided to come up with a solution by creating a new search engine. In 1997, “Google.com” was registered and the name originated from the word “googol”. The word “googol” is mathematical terminology that represented the number one followed by 100 zeroes. Page and Brin planned on organizing unlimited amounts of information on the internet (Google, 2014). In the fall of 1998, Google filed incorporation in the state of California in which Page and Sergey opened a bank in the company’s name. Google’s first two investors were Andy Bechtolsheim and David Cheriton, and they each invested $100,000 in September 1998. Andy Bechtolsheim was the first investor to write a check to "Google Inc." before Google Inc. was founded (Google, 2014).
Google was founded by two University of Stanford graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Their main objective of founding the company was to be able to retrieve specific data from massive amounts of information. The two developed a proprietary technology that would become the ultimate search engine. Initially the pair worked out of their dorm room, then a garage, and once they had quickly outgrown these "facilities" they had moved on to a much larger facility where they reside to this day. It seemed to be a matter of time before they had conquered the continental United States, and had begun to eye the lands across the pond.
Its persistence and incredible energy are definably the keys of success. The first model created inside the company was focusing on the users, and the rest will be followed achieved. Also, the company figured out that being great at one thing was going to be the right path to follow. Plus, especially when dealing with technology, being able to provide a fast service was going to gain numerous customers. Moreover, Google’s model was based on democracy and ethical behavior. It is not necessary to become evil in order to be successful. Information is precious and a company like Google is always in need of information. There is plenty of information out there waiting to be found, and it only needs someone to look in the right place. Dressing like a professional does not make a person one. It takes skills, abilities and education. Finally, progress will never stop, and when someone thinks that he or she had reached the top, something will come up. In order to be successful, a person or a company should not stop
A search engine was built in January 1996, as a research project by Larry Page, who was soon joined by Sergey Brin, two Ph.D. students at Stanford University, California. This search engine was named “BackRub,” and it was the beginning of a new era. The name of this website was changed afterward to what we know now as “Google.” I have been studying the business case of Google in one of my MIS classes and using the information I gained from that course, I am able to talk about Google. Since my audience is the instructor and my classmates, Google helps you find information that you need for your daily life in college. I want my audience to know by the end of my speech about Google //what is the history of Google, /what makes it special, //and lessons to learn from the experience of Google’s founders.
