A Baseball Fan
What is a baseball fan? The word "fan" is an abbreviation of the word "fanatic," meaning "insane." In the case of baseball fans, the term is very appropriate. They behave insanely, they are insane about baseball trivia, and they are insanely loyal.
Certainly the behavior of baseball fans is insane. They wear their official team t-shirts and warm-up jackets to the mall, the store, the classroom, and, if they can get away with it, to work. Then, whenever the team offers a giveaway item, the fans rush out to get the roll-up hat, tote bag, or beer cooler offered that day .
In addition, they cover their walls with items of every kind. A baseball fan will have his bedroom walls plastered with posters and ornamented with caps and buttons. When they go to a game, the true baseball fans put on their team colors, grab their pennants, pin on their team buttons, and even bring along hand-lettered bed sheet signs proudly proclaiming "Go Dodgers" or "Braves are Number 1." At the game, these fans form a rooting section, constantly encouraging their favorite players and obediently echoing every cheer flashed on the electronic scoreboard.
Baseball fans, in addition to behaving insanely, are also fascinated by baseball trivia. Every day they turn to the sports page and study last night's statistics. They simply must see who extended his hitting streak and how many strikeouts the winning pitcher recorded. Their bookshelves are crammed full of record books, team yearbooks, and baseball almanacs. They delight in remembering such significant facts as who was the last left-handed third baseman to hit an inning-ending double play in the fifth game of the playoffs.
Finally, baseball fans are insanely loyal to the team of their choice. Should the home team's players lose eight in a row, their fans may begin to call them "bums." They may even suggest that the slumping cleanup hitter be sent to the minors or the manager fired. However, such reactions only hide their broken hearts. They still check the sports pages and tune in to get the score. Furthermore, this intense loyalty can make fans dangerous, for anyone who dares to say to a loyal fan that some other team has sharper fielding or a better attitude could risk permanent, physical harm.
Not long ago on the 15th of February 2013 an asteroid named 2012 DA14 merely scrapped the earth’s surface by a tiny margin, even closer than some satellites. According to the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) the asteroid was 17,200 miles above our planet's surface, which may seem a long way from earth. However, in terms how big the earth is compared to the 17,200 miles, we can acknowledge that many people were saved from death.
...l meteorites that collide with the earth often leave a crater or some type of fragments left behind. But this event was only getting remarkable by the day. One thing that really stunned scientists as they searched were the tree patterns. In fact, the forest fall left a butterfly pattern which was significant but yet oddly strange. According to Ol’khovatov, the forest-fall disappears just a few kilometers to the west of the epicenter, and the farther to the west are where rare fallen trees exist. And similar to what was stated above, there were attempts to stimulate the forest fall by a meteoroid explosion. Though, the results were remarkable they knew from large observational data-set that a meteoroid would disintegrate before impacting with the earth. In order for the trees to have a significant pattern the meteoroid had to be an enormous block of super-explosive.
A fun fact that came up is that as much a 4 billion meteors fall to the Earth each day. Most of them are not significant enough for anyone to notice. Another one is that the Earth gains about a million kilograms of mass a day from meteors.
Abstract The point of building this robot was to have it successfully complete and tie a knot. The original idea was to have the robot tie knots creating a bracelet. Unfortunately, the process of tying a knot alone was too much work to try and move on to an entire bracelet. I had neither the time nor the insight to build a flexible and usable 'arm.'

Over time, other scientists began finding iridium evidence at many different locations around the world that supported the Alvarez theory. In 1991, an immense meteor crater, about 110 miles in diameter, was discovered on the the Yucatán Peninsula. The crater even extended to the Gulf of Mexico. The Chicxulub Crater, as it was called, was named after a nearby village. Scientists believe the meteor that formed this massive crater was around 6 miles in diameter. It is also believed that it struck the earth at 40,000 miles per hour and released 2 million times more energy than the most powerful nuclear bomb ever detonated. This great impact would have caused so much heat that would have boiled the earth’s surface. The scorching temperatures would have caused wildfires throughout the globe and the Earth would turn into complete darkness because debris would have filled the sky. It is believed that mile-high tsunamis could have the momentum to cover the continents, which would drown multiple species of life. Massive shock waves would even have the power to trigger earthquakes and volcanic eruptions all over the planet.
It is also a continuing theory that perhaps an asteroid crashed into earth which caused a climatic and environmental changes causing dinosaurs are extinct. The asteroid is trusted to have made a huge depression in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Asteroids are categorized into a number of types according to their spectra. C-type, includes more than seven five percent of known asteroids: tremendously dark; similar to carbonaceous chondrite meteorites; approximately the same chemical arrangement as the Sun minus hydrogen, helium and other volatiles; S-type, seventeen percent: relatively bright; metallic nickel-iron assorted with iron- and magnesium-silicates; M-type, most of the rest: bright; pure nickel-iron. There are also a dozen or so additional rare types.
Being a season ticket holder means a great deal to fans who love going out to the ballpark. When a security guard at the front gate doesn’t allow entry because of a tee shirt the ticket holder is wearing, to say it would cause the ticket holder to be angry is an understatement. If purchasing season tickets doesn’t guarantee entry into the stadium merely on the fact that some people find the word “suck” to be offensive was a travesty to season ticket holders. As a matter of fact, the word “suck” is being used by children today than in most the Mariner management’s lifetimes. Telling grown up fans to act as management wants to is fascism in a corporate disguise. When someone buys a ticket it is expected that the buyer is to act like a civilized human being, but don’t make up new standards for the fan to abide by.
3 pnuematic cylinders are strong enough to raise the arm to over 6 feet in the air then bring it all the way back down when aided by two gas springs. Having such a simple raising and lowering device means there are way fewer things that could go wrong, and makes pit crew's life easier. The claw which is affixed to then end of the arm is another fascinatinng design ( I designed and built it so I'm slighty biased twards it). Using two pnuematic cylinders affixed to plates extening from the back of the wrist and then to a pivot point on the arms, the claw can get a solid hold on a cube from almost any angle. The claw is also attached to a chain driven wrist that allows it to hinge backward allowing the robot to hold the cube secruerly within it's
Garbage trucks have been around since the early 1920?s and are getting more and more advanced each year. But even now in the 21st century the same basic principle of
The scientists will map ways to combat an asteroid attack, a cosmic sucker punch like the collision that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago and flattened a Siberian forest in 1908.
The extraterrestrial impact theory is that scientists have found logical evidence for if there was a large asteroid. The biggest point of evidence for it being an asteroid was that there was a 150 kilometer wide crater that was found off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. Scientists calculated that the asteroid or comet was traveling at 30 kilometers per second. For months, scientists concluded that after the impact, clouds of dust blocked the sun and cooled the Earth to a deadly level for plants, and inturn many animals. After the dust settled, greenhouse gasses created a smolder...
It is a shared truth that humans often tend to think of robots as nothing more than computer machines made of objects like metal, plastic, silicone and computer chips. However, in truth, a robot’s general purpose is more complex than some know. In order for a robot to function, it must carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations, and programming the specs is difficult task that could take years to finish depending on the purpose of the robot.
When one is a fan of a sport, they want to do everything in their power to make sure that their sport team wins. For example, in 1945 when a Cubs fan named Billy Sianis was ejected from Wrigley field after many people complained about the smell coming from his goat, he was infuriated and put a curse on the team proclaiming, "Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more." After decades of losing, Cubs fans would result to detach a goat's head from it’s body to hang on the Harry Caray statue or send it to the Cubs owner. This obsession results in the desperate need of a sports fan for their team to win that they become blindsided by the superstition and don’t think of the inconvenience this could have caused to people and the consequences one might
There are more than 20,000 pieces of debris larger than a softball orbiting the Earth. This debris can travel at speeds up to 17,500 mph. Even a relatively small piece of space debris can damage a satellite or a spacecraft at these speeds. Additionally, there are more than 500,000 pieces...
