I'm the King of the Castle
While reading I'm the King of the Castle, I noticed that Susan Hill used many different techniques to put a point across, the most important being her use of imagery. However her writing also has many other qualities such as good structure and her ability to think like her characters. In addition she manages to build up tension and uses different ways of emphasising words or phrases. All of these factors contribute to her unique evocative style and add to her reputation of being a very talented writer.
In chapter Eleven, paragraph thirty-eight, she describes vividly how Kingshaw feels sick with fright when Hooper locks him in the shed.
"He retched, and then began

An example of this is Kingshaw's fear of moths.
" 'There are a lot of moths,' Hooper said softly, ' there always are, in woods. Pretty big ones, as well.'
Kingshaw's stomach clenched. In his nostrils, he could smell the mustiness of the Red Room."
This passage shows how Hooper taunts Kingshaw with his fear (childishly). She shows Kingshaw's reaction to his fear by saying his stomach clenched. She then continues with his memory of the Red Room, where he had been scared by the death moths, using her evocative style to describe how he associates moths with the musty smell of the Red Room. She uses the example of moths through out the book, along with Kingshaw's other fears such as birds.

A Classic example is in chapter sixteen, when every one was in the Breakfast room on the day of Mrs. Helena Kingshaw and Mr. Hooper's wedding announcement. Suddenly the scene changes to them being in a muddy field. This can be quite confusing for the reader but it does keep them alert. It was also in this scene where Susan Hill showed her ability to build up tension. This was done by Kingshaw expressing his fears about something that we do not know about, and Mrs. Helena Kingshaw talking about how he was scared by this thing when he was little. As the passage continues the writer gives us a clue that the unknown fear is of a certain place and finally (after a page of writing) she tells us that the place in question is a

Stylistic choices made by people when writing all differ from each other. Everyone has their own perspective on any topic given and sometimes they may be the same as others, but when written these ideas of theirs can be completely different with how that writer chooses to express the idea. For Barbara Kingsolver in her novel The Bean Trees she makes an effective display of her personality and thoughts through her writing helping the audience understand more thoroughly who she is and why the writing is hers. Themes and motifs are utilized in her writing with a repetitive overarching concept relating to women. Kingsolver makes this her own by inserting themes in her publication that indirectly address the process of womanhood for her characters
The structure of the book played a huge role because his ideas seemed to be out of order. Oftentimes, King was reflecting rather than following the structure of a story line. He would start speaking about one topic and then make a reference back to a situation that occurred at a later date. The style affected the reader’s understanding of King’s situation. The story could be improved if King were to use a different writing style.

Descriptive imagery is also dominant in line 29 “She clawed through bits of glass and brick,” allows the reader to vividly picture the mother frantically digging through the crumbling remains of the church in search of the daughter she holds dear to her heart. Clearly picturing the frantic mother the readers can feel how dramatic the situation is and the devastating, emotional impact it will have on the mother’s life. The descriptive imagery adds to the dramatic situation by allowing the reader to picture the mother and bu...

Did you know that Henry I was the first monarch to use Windsor Castle as a home? During his reign, the wooden keep and walls were replaced with stone and served as a stronger structure for the castle to survive upon. Windsor Castle has housed many kings and queens throughout its lifetime, and has become a monument in England’s history. It has been refurbished over the years, but still has remained with the same layout. The interior is the extent of the changes made around the castle over its lifetime, besides the walls being substituted with stone.
Mary Katherine, a young adult with sociopathic behavior, displays her disorder with frequent outbursts, lack of remorse and disregard for social norms throughout the novel We Have Always Lived in The Castle by Shirley Jackson. Her sociopathic tendencies are constant in the novel with mention that this behavior has been consistent since she was a child. Mary Katherine progressively shows her volatile actions in the story and her actions cause way to a multitude of problems for anyone in her path, especially her close older sister Constance. Her personality disorder coupled with her schizotypal disposition is inherent and not due to being spoiled or temperamental despite her being raised wealthy in a large household.
Imagery is a key part of any poem or literary piece and creates an illustration in the mind of the reader by using descriptive and vivid language. Olds creates a vibrant mental picture of the couple’s surroundings, “the red tiles glinting like bent plates of blood/ the
...mple of imagery is when Richard’s friends run up to him with his article in their hands and a baffled look on their faces. This shows that Richard is a very talented writer for his age and that Richard is a very ambitious person because his school never taught him to write the way he does. This also shows that Richard took it upon himself to become a talented author and wants to be a writer when he grows up.
Investigation of the Movement of Pigment through Cell Membranes Aim The aim of the investigation is to identify the effect of temperature of the movement of pigment through cell membrane of beetroot cells. Prediction and Reasoning [IMAGE]I predict that the temperature will effect the movement of the beetroot pigment through the cell membrane. I believe an increase in temperature would result in an increase in the amount of pigment being released out of the cell. I base my prediction on the fact that an increase in temperature would provide the pigment molecules with more kinetic energy and therefore the rate of diffusion will increase. The increase in temperature would also denature (damage or change the characteristics of) the cell membrane resulting in more pigment being lost.
The language used portrays the characters thoughts and emotions for example she goes into great detail about her surroundings (her life) and the events which had taken place there .She talks about her environment as if she is closely connected with the associations to which she describes.
