"Success entails having a positive outlook and good work ethic to help you pursue your dreams
and goals throughout your entire life. Success is achieving intellectual growth for your own
personal enrichment. Success is making the best of the opportunities that are presented to us in
order to do good things for ourselves and for those around us."

What is success and how can you achieve it? I’d like to to propose a new definition of success that isn’t about landing a job; it’s about believing that the job you will do is the job you should be doing. In other words, success must come from you, and the support—whether from family, professors, or career counselors—is what will help you to get there.
There are some difficult steps along the way, the first of which is to know thyself. You might not be visiting the oracle at Delphi, even though having your future told might be nice in an age of endless options. As entrepreneur Bo Bennett explains: “Success is not what you have, but who you are.”
Who am I? How’d I get here? Okay, Descartes, relax. There are some modern day tools that will help you bypass the existential crisis. Many of these, from Strong Interest Inventory to the StrengthsFinder, can help you gain perspective on all those hidden talents you may not have realized you had. What could be better?
Are you “The Inspirer?” “The Executive?” “The Scientist?” Myers Briggs, also available at Career Services can help you find out.
Of course, everyone has a pretty good sense of what they are good at. But finding out more, you might gain a language for talking about your abilities—and how that can translate into your own personal definition of success.
But for anyone who has taken the SAT, you know there’s only so much multiple choice can say. The next step is getting to know you. Listen to your tendencies. Do you like risk or stability? High energy tasks or a steady pace? Engaging with new people or working with a small, tight group?
This streamlines right into step two: know thy options.
It’s like an exit on an airplane: look for a job “keeping in mind that it might be behind you.
Generally speaking, success isn’t just about what you accomplish in life, it’s how you accomplished it and the impact you
...out what is for her and how she wants to live. So in the end, she is where she wants to be. Janie pulls in the horizon that she has spent her whole life searching for. She calls her soul to come in and see. Where once her soul was separate from her, it is now a part of her. Janie grew throughout the novel into a strong and independent woman. Although Janie cared for Tea Cake, she needed to kill him in order to keep him from suffering. Janie shows the reader that she has lived her life fully the way she wanted too and is now able to die having no regrets in life. Although Janie did recognize that most men were obsessed with power and thrived for complete control, she did discover a man who helped push her to her goals. Tea Cake helped Janie a lot, but he made sure she did not rely on him because from the moment they met, he knew how strong of a woman Janie truly was.
In the end, Janie found herself being defined by other people, so to say Logan, Joe, and Tea Cake. During her marriage to Logan, Janie is viewed as a spoiled and non-hard working girl that needs to learn what it means to make a living. In her marriage to Joe, Janie is only needed for her outward appearance for him to define as his possession; never did he consult her about what she wanted. In both of these relationships she was forced to be something that she was not. Once Tea Cake came along everything had changed; going from following another man’s orders to being able to live a fun-loving life. Throughout the time she spends with him, finally free from being defined by someone else, Janie Crawford discovers who she is and what love is.
In Tennessee William's play, The Glass Menagerie, the character of Laura is like a fragile piece of glass. The play is based around a fragile family and their difficulties coping with life.
Strengths Finder 2.0 uses an online assessment to evaluate the individuals unique talents by having the taker rate how they view a particular question in 20 seconds or less (Rath, 2007). After taking the assessment, my five strengths were determined to be achiever, maximizer, input, arranger, and relator (Gallup StrengthsFinder, 2012).
The glass figurines that reside in Laura's menagerie are symbolic of Laura herself. Laura is "like a piece of her own glass collection, too exquisitely fragile to move from the shelf" (849). Because of a slight defect, magnified several times over by her own mind, Laura's self image is as fragile as her collection. Because of her low self image, she is extremely withdrawn, even to the point of avoiding contact with others as much as is possible. Laura escapes "to the world of her menagerie where she is safe from the world of people" (Kahn 74)...
My personality type is Extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceptive or ENFP. According to the description in the exercise, ENFP's are warm, enthusiastic and live their outer life more with intuition and their inner more with feeling. This assessment is consistent with the results that I received in part I of the exercise. I am an extroverted person who enjoys being around and working with people.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
In this portion of the play, Laura finally works up the courage to speak with Jim, after a bit of persuasion. She is having a surprisingly good time, and becoming more open due to Jim’s polite and relaxed manner. They reminisce over old times, and Jim tells Laura that she needs to be more confident in herself. The mood is lighthearted and easy, and Laura becomes so comfortable that she tells him about her glass menagerie, and she even lets him handle the glass unicorn. They begin dancing, and when they accidentally bump the table, the glass unicorn falls off, and its horn is broken from its head. Although the unicorn is a prized possession of Laura’s, she does not worry about the fact that it broke; instead she stays positive and insists that now it fits in with the rest of her glass horses.
Success only truly comes with being happy. Happiness and success are the accomplices of one another. Someone cannot have accompanies without the other. Happiness brings success, and success brings even more happiness. Success, in the dictionary, is defined as the achievement of something desired planned or attempted. Therefore, success cannot be judged by anyone than oneself. It is a personal thing. It is the realization of goals, desires or plans made by one 's self. It is not measurable and yet is something we always use to compare others or appraise someone 's worth. Success, in one form or another, is something that someone should always be striving for. For some people it is something they will do subconsciously, and for others it will be something they will constantly labor for. Because success is something that is different for everyone, it is best that they measure their personal success by their sense of self worth instead of others. To have succeeded is to have lived, as someone wanted; ' it is to have lived well and laughed
Success is within the mind of the individual. A large portion of ones life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and make lots of money. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. For some, success is measured by social status and wealth; for others success is determined only by the amount of happiness one feels.
What I discovered about myself, is that I have a personality type of a “protagonist”. The “Protagonist” basically describes myself adequately, as they find it easy to communicate with others, natural born leaders, and are full of charisma. All of those characteristics tie in to the type of skill and job that I soon want to be possessed in. That job and skill lies in the Marketing field. My attraction draws to this specific job because I am an outgoing person, persuasive, and use my creativity to the best of my ability. I have always questioned the things people do, such as “Why do people purchase they things they do?” and “What inspires and influence consumer purchase behaviors?”. All of this falls under Marketing, which plan programs to generate
Laura is a unique character of the play. She is very much quiet and unenthusiastic about life. “Her collection of glass represents her own private world. Set apart from reality, a place where she can hide and be safe. The events that happen to Laura’s glass affects Laura’s emotional state greatly” (Symbolism n.p.) Instead of doing what her mother asked of her, Laura would play with her glass collection. On other instances, Laura would play with her glass collection until her mother was heard walking up the fire escape and then she would start doing something her mother approved of. Near the end of the play, when Tom le...
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
