Computer Science The computing industry as a whole becomes more prosperous, exciting and attractive as an employment prospect each day. It spans a wide range of modern applications, as does my interest in the subject. I see computing science as a gateway into new realms of computing, where the highly challenging and demanding work may reap rewards of an equivalent level. My knowledge has grown over the past six years, outwith the areas of learning offered by school courses, and I see this course as an opportunity to gain new skills and broaden my knowledge further. My main interests are varied, including communications and the internet, system analysis and design, software development, processors and low level machine studies. I have recently developed an interest in data encryption, hence my active participation in the RSA RC64 Secret-Key challenge, the latest international de-encryption contest from the RSA laboratories of America. In school, I have participated in two I.T. competitions with the Royal Bank of Scotland, the first of which provided a solution to Macintosh emulation on the Amiga platform, and this year, I am leading a team of five pupils to design a network solution and website for the new school here in Ullapool. I was also marketing director of a Young Enterprise team, gaining a credit pass in the exam, and producing a tourist brochure that has been a commercial success. I found that an invaluable learning experience due to the teamwork involved. I have also attended the Air Training Corps for two years, am currently a Senior cadet corporal and attained a credit pass in the recent exam.. My other hobbies are equally varied, including Palaeontology, Geology and Snowboarding. For seven years I have been involved in the treatment of casualties, and administration at the Highland Wildlife Hospital Trust, run primarily by my parents.
Sweat dripping down my face and butterflies fluttering around my stomach as if it was the Garden of Eden, I took in a deep breathe and asked myself: "Why am I so nervous? After all, it is just the most exciting day of my life." When the judges announced for the Parsippany Hills High School Marching Band to commence its show, my mind blanked out and I was on the verge of losing sanity. Giant's Stadium engulfed me, and as I pointed my instrument up to the judges' stand, I gathered my thoughts and placed my mouth into the ice-cold mouthpiece of the contrabass. "Ready or not," I beamed, "here comes the best show you will ever behold." There is no word to describe the feeling I obtain through music. However, there is no word to describe the pain I suffer through in order to be the best in the band either. When I switched my instrument to tuba from flute in seventh grade, little did I know the difference it would make in the four years of high school I was soon to experience. I joined marching band in ninth grade as my ongoing love for music waxed. When my instructor placed the 30 lb. sousaphone on my shoulder on the first day, I lost my balance and would have fallen had my friends not made the effort to catch me. During practices, I always attempted to ease the discomfort as the sousaphone cut through my collar bone, but eventually my shoulder started to agonize and bleed under the pressure. My endurance and my effort to play the best show without complaining about the weight paid off when I received the award for "Rookie of the Year." For the next three seasons of band practice, the ache and toil continued. Whenever the band had practice, followed by a football game and then a competition, my brain would blur from fatigue and my body would scream in agony. Nevertheless, I pointed my toes high in the air as I marched on, passionate about the activity. As a result, my band instructor saw my drive toward music and I was named Quartermaster for my junior year, being trusted with organizing, distributing, and collecting uniforms for all seventy-five members of the band. The responsibility was tremendous. It took a bulk of my time, but the sentiment of knowing that I was an important part of band made it all worthwhile.

Mankind has always found a way to better and prolong our lives through science and medicine. With the growing interest in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) that has occurred over the last decade, one could easily say that “unconventional,” or non-Westernized, approaches to healing must be a new phenomenon never before seen in American society or around the world. The reality is, however, that the current rise in fashionability for unorthodox treatments is merely the latest of three waves of mainstream popularity in the past century-and-a-half (the first was the mid-1800s, the second the early 1900s in the United States). Although it is true that the present environment differs in certain critical respects from previous times, there are still plenty of parallels in which historical patterns are mirrored across time by the interest in CAM today. Alternative medicines are widely used around the world and are becoming more controversial each day. Alternative medicines are considered in the eyes of some doctors as “junk science”. Not only do they see the medicines as “junk science” but they also fear that the medicines can potentially be very dangerous. “Junk science” according to junkscience.com is “faulty scientific data and analysis used to advance special interests and hidden agendas”. In other words, “junk science” practicing or studying something without scientific evidence or without scientific evidence of the study. In the eyes of some doctors there is no such thing as alternative medicine; they are just therapeutic treatments that can be potentially dangerous. Doctors believe that the alternative medicines can be potentially dangerous due to the lack of scientific evidence. Because there is no scientific evidence, they don’t know the full potential of the treatment, they don’t know the long term effects nor do they know if the treatments can open doors to other sicknesses or bacteria. And eventually you will be stuck with a sickness that’s worse than the reason you’re taking the medicine in the first place.

In High School, college seemed to be the scariest thing that I could think of. Whenever I thought about it my stomach would immediately begin to spin in circles. Although I was ready to go off and be by myself and meet new people I was scared to death at the same time. I didn't know much about the "college experience" and what I did know (or thought I knew) scared me. I pictured hard classes that I wouldn't be able to keep up with, people that wouldn't like me, long hikes to get to my classes, and horrible food. I couldn't imagine leaving the security of my own room, my own stuff where I want it, my friends that I've spent practically my whole life with, my family who put up with all my little quirks, and my car!! What was I going to do without my precious car? Some of my friends that had already been to college and had come back to visit seemed so much older and more mature. I felt twelve years old in comparison. I thought that I would never be able to fit in. Everyone else that I talked to didn't however seem to have this problem. They all were thrilled at the thought of being on their own and not having to worry about their parents telling them what to do all the time. And sure, the thought was extremely exciting to me as well, but how would I survive without my family and friends and the things that had taken me eighteen years to get used to. I felt like going to college was pretty much taking everything that I knew and had grown accustomed to and throwing it up in the air. The worst part about it all was that I felt like I was the only one that actually thought about this. I felt so immature and childish for actually being scared to come to college. After I thought I wouldn't be able to take the pressures anymore, I decided to approach my mom about the subject. I told her that I was a little scared and the thought of being on my own made me a little uneasy.
I have always been interested and intrigued by computers, ever since using a BBC when I was very young. Since then I have become fluent in writing BASIC and more recently I have learnt HTML, the language of the World Wide Web on which I have my own wesite. I use computers for most of my exam coursework such as Solving Equations Using Numerical Methods for Pure Maths 2 and also for recreation.
The crucial importance and relevance of economics related disciplines to the modern world have led me to want to pursue the study of these social sciences at a higher level. Having analyzed a lot of literature on the issues connected to the topic of choosing alternative ways of treatment instead of conventional medicine, I want to say that there are natural treatments for every complaint and what is more, non-traditional medicine attempts to repair balance by removing any barriers and problems, keeping human’s body from healing itself. The only obstacle to recovering process can be a person and, to be precise, his or her attitude to the approach that is applied. A feature of the person, the essence of the disease and other factors more occur in treatment, and not so much which disease is being treated.
If the nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computers and Information Technology have dominated since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood. After my twelfth grade, the inherent ardor I held for Computer Science motivated me to do a bachelors degree in Information Technology. Programming and Math, a paragon of logic and reasoning, have always been my favorite subjects since childhood.

With the passing of time, people will gain reliance on Chinese medicine again, since alternative medicine is more efficient and powerful in order to get better and handle the disease than modern medicine because in traditional medicine, there are fewer drugs, side effects, there is placebo effect and holistic therapy which all the patients can be exploited.
