The Theater Certainly is Not What it Was!
Each time I watch a theatrical performance I always walk away inspired but I always feel as if something were missing from the overall performance. Maybe there could have been more special effects done with the lighting or the character(s) costume(s) could have been more colorful or the soundtrack should have been jazzier.
Someone once told me, "Why don't you just go see a movie!?"
Well okay I like movies too, especially the special effects and the graphics, but I can appreciate plays, dance performances just because it is not a movie. I like using my imagination where some visual elements are left up the audience member to see in their minds the way they want to see it.
Why mot make theater more interactive? The first play I wrote, the audience sat too far away from the stage. I wanted them to be closer. The audience laughed through the whole thing but I think it would have been funnier if they were on the stage, close enough to be apart of the action.
The first digital video I made here at ITP was so pretty to me. It's amazing how a flower looks spinning slowly to a soundtrack that is slightly faster. I am curious to how it would look to see 2 performers dance in front of that spinning flower.
There is so much I can visualize and so many things I want people to know that if it were a play or movie it would be too long to watch in one sitting. What I want to so is show the audience everything all at once. If there is a character having a bad dream, I want to show the audience that drem in 3D without having to go to the movies. I want to preserve the personal sacred space of a theater.
Everyone knows that person whoe shouts at the screen when they are watching a scary movie, "NO!! DON'T GO IN THERE!!!!!" Well I want the people in the feature to hear that person and then react to what they said.
The context for my field of interest is INTERACTIVE THEATER. How do I connect the world of computer technology w/ the written play?
In today 's government political parties are a large part of government operations and how decisions are made in the government. In Madison 's The Federalist, No.10 Madison talked about how factions can control and cause harm to the government. A solution to this control was the use of a republic in order to limit the power of factions and keep them from having complete control. In our government however, factions have become a major part of the government system with political parties having complete control over the different branches of government. The use of this two political party system creates many problems within our government as the two parties fight for control over legislature and control over the government. Despite using a republic system as Madison mentions in his paper, factions continue to control and affect our government today. Madison 's views on government branches also affects our government today. Our government being in branches does help our government from being affected by corruption by each branch being independent from each other. These independent branches help prevent corruption by each branch having independent leadership and control and not being affected by the views of each other. At the same time these branches having unique views and control can lead to problems as the branches of government may not be able to interact properly with
Madison begins by stating that a "well constructed union" will be able to break apart the violence of factions. He states this is the vice that democratic government has fallen prey to. Democracies are not stable and that the source of this instability is a self interested majority:
Madison believed that having diverse representatives would lead to a federal government that would be better than any state government that was homogeneous. He went a step further by saying that representatives should be unlike the populous, meaning that the elected should be wiser, better, and not like the voters. Anti-Federalists predicted the populist Americans wouldn’t put up with these bold Federalist ideas. The Anti-Federalists would make their mark on the Constitution, but ultimately the Constitution would be closer to the Federalists’ bold
Pause for a second and think about a play or musical that you have seen. Consider the plot, whether you liked it or not and if the experience was positive or negative. Think about the characters, the costumes, and the emotions that were emitted. The discourse community of theatre is unique in the way that it is so complex and there are many different parts that ultimately come together to create a dynamic whole. The term discourse community is rather broad, but John Swales in his article “The Concept of Discourse Community” gives six characteristics that define it. Swales lists them saying,
In James Madison’s paper federalist No, 10, James Madison’s interpreted that a factions of people gathering is to protect and being able to give their interest and political opinions to the economic. Madison thought that there could be two ways to be able to control a faction which is; to be able to control the effects and remove its causes. There were two ways to be able to eliminate the causes of the faction and which is getting rid of the liberty or give the same opinions, interest, and passion to citizens. Therefore, the governments created by the constitution were able to take care of the damage that was caused by such factions. Madison was also stating the any men elected to the office, shall be wise and a good men to the best of America. He also thought that the opposite might happen. Men who are prejudice or evil and wins elections could destroy and betray people’s passions and interests.
After he died, Ramses was buried in the famous royal necropolis of the Valley of the Kings, located in the hills on the west bank of the Nile opposite modern town of Luxor.
The production had many elements which for the most part formed a coalition to further the plot. The characters, the three part scenery and costumes represented well the period of time these people were going through. As far as the performers entering and exiting the stage, it could have been more organized. There were a few times when the performers exited at the wrong times or it seemed so due to the echo of the music. At certain moments the music was slightly loud and drowned the performers. Many of the songs dragged on, so the pacing could have been more effectively executed. Though the music was off at times, the director's decision to have most of the songs performed center sage was a wise one. Also the implementation of actual white characters that were competent in their roles came as a great surprise to the audience and heightened the realism.
Child labor refers to the economic active population under the age of 15 years employed in various industries (Grootaert, 2). According to the Microsoft Encarta, child labor is now used to denote the employment of minors in work that may interfere with their education or endanger their health (IPEC, 1). Child labor has grown to be a topic of widespread debate. It has many favorable and unfavorable points of view. In any case, child labor should be eradicated as it is harmful to the health of the children, it is an obstacle to their education, and it denies them a happy childhood.
...ously and see plays and performances not only as art but as a vital part of the human existence.
are heavily influenced by theatre and Broadway therefore, people are more aware of live theatre and often attend plays. Cities such as Modesto, Turlock, Stockton, etc. have little knowledge and are less aware of live theatre. As a result, people in such cities prefer entertainment in movie theatres. The entertainment levels differ between live theatre and movies depending on how that particular entertainment is presented and how the audience recognizes it. The main goal of live theatre is to entertain the audience either through comedy, tragedy, romance, and action through the use of costumes, effects, props, and lighting to achieve the highest possible entertainment level for the people in order for them to come watch more theatre and drama. On the other hand, some people prefer movies to be more entertaining due to enhanced sound and edited picture. Movies are mainly offered everywhere meanwhile, live theatre is harder to find especially local. I would advise people to try out and attend live theatre plays and give it a try. It is a great experience for family and friends. I am glad that I took this course and had the chance to explore theatre and drama. I will definitely attend live theatre plays in the future. It is a different form of entertainment compared to movies. Theatre is composed of many emotions and will leave the audience feeling some type of way. In my opinion, theatre is a form of exceptional art. I had different empowering emotions and experience with these three events. Theatre is truly a memorable art of
So I believe that the issue of child labour is not simple. As Unicef’s 1997 State of the World’s Children Report argued, children’s work needs to be seen as having two extremes. On one hand, there is the destructive or exploitative work and, on the other hand, there is beneficial work - promoting or enhancing children’s development without interfering with their schooling, recreation and rest. ‘And between these two poles are vast areas of work that need not negatively affect a child’s development.’ My firm belief is that there is a difference between child labour and child work and that in both cases the issue is whether or not the child is deliberately being exploited.
Wilson, E., & Goldfarb, A. (2008). Theater: the lively art (6th ed.). Boston: McGraw Hill.
Imagine this following scene: You are sitting in a dark, fairly crowded large room. There are hundreds of other people, in hundreds of other seats surrounding you. In front of you, there is a large stage, with people acting out a play. Lights, music, and different sound effects set the mood of the play for you to understand more clearly what is going on. With these certain conventions, viewer can get a real grasp of a story in which several actors are trying to portray. However, it hasn’t always been this easy to enjoy a play in a theater. Theatre and plays go back as far as “b.c.” times.
The survival of theatre lies in the very nature of humankind: its inner voyeuristic drive. The desire to watch other people dealing with their conflicts and fates challenges as well as reinforces values and the morality of society. The theatre provides an exciting opportunity to watch stories and situations as if they were real life, showing us the truth of our nature.
Theatre is something that brings people together; it needs and audience to exist unlike movies and television. For a performance to happen, anywhere from a hundred to a thousand or more people need to gather in one place for a few hours, and share together in witnessing a live event that may be beautiful, funny, moving, or thought-provoking. Each type can fade in and out of popularity but it is not foreseeable that live performance will ever really "die out". Even in a world where all narrative performances have migrated to video, some musician at some point may introduce a new element of theatricality into their show, or some standup comic will act out something for their routine, people will respond to it, and suddenly we 'll see Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, and Rogers and Hammerstein popping up all over the
