I read voraciously as a child. I grew up in a college town and spent my summers in Middlebury, Vt, where my father taught summer school. That meant I was surrounded by libraries and by people who love to read and discuss literature. During the Vermont summers, one of my favorite places was Middlebury College's rare books room where I read first-edition Louisa May Alcott novels. Besides this immersion into a world of books, I credit my love of reading to the fact that my parents only let me watch an hour of TV a day. I learned to use my mind and imagination to entertain myself. It's not really surprising that literature became my vocation. When not reading or writing, I enjoy watching films, baking, going to the city to eat Thai and Ethiopian food, walking, and relaxing with my friends. I read because it brings me pleasure and because I never want to stop learning. Recently I have been reading a lot of multicultural women's literature and Victorian medical textbooks.
My parents have always stressed the importance of reading. Throughout my whole life, they have motivated me to read and they have encouraged me to find books that I find interesting to read. Because of their encouragement, I am an avid reader today. When I was a child, just starting to enjoy reading I liked to read books that were fiction. Some of my favorite books to read as a child are series that I still love today and I think I still have every book in each series stored in my attic. They are The Boxcar Children, Junie B. Jones, and The Magic Tree House.
As a child, I have always been fond of reading books. My mother would read to me every single night before I went to bed and sometimes throughout the day. It was the most exciting time of the day when she would open the cabinet, with what seemed to be hundreds of feet tall, of endless books to choose from. When she read to me, I wanted nothing more than to read just like her. Together, we worked on reading every chance we had. Eventually I got better at reading alone and could not put a book down. Instead of playing outside with my brothers during the Summer, I would stay inside in complete silence and just read. I remember going to the library with my mom on Saturdays, and staying the entire day. I looked forward to it each and every week.
Mason Cooley says about reading “Reading gives us some place to go when we have to stay where we are .” Reading is like a journey you can take when you want to go somewhere. Everyone always wants to imagine they are in the journey with the character in the book. When the story is over the person that is reading never wants to leave the journey. Everyone starts a new journey when they open a new book to read. Sometimes people who read don’t have a journey with the character; they just want to read because they don’t have anything else to do. For me reading is really fun to do.
I really don’t read much. But when I find a book I like I read it a lot. I mostly read sports books because I really like sports. My biggest
I used to have to take these tests about all the books I would read in school and I would always ace them all. I knew that reading was something I liked because I was always very intrigued by it. Also in middle school I found my true writing voice. I remember taking a creative writing class in six grade and I was always the student who wrote more than what was expected for my writing assignments. I would write stories about things such as my friends and the experiences that I had in school. Sometimes I would even write my own plays and in my plays the characters would be people in family and people from school. I would always try to make the plot super interesting in my plays. One time I wrote a play about my brothers and me traveling to space and finding aliens. Overall, I really fell in love with literacy throughout my middle school years because I was able to read books more at an advance level and I also was able to write more intense stories. Literacy has been a positive influence in my life all throughout my school
Creating a large format banner design was the first assignment given to us students in Communication Design 1. The objectives for this assignment was to create a portable pop-up banner stand design for a client of our choosing. The banner would either have to be for a product or service provided by the client. Although original imagery was allowed, the concept had to be type dominate. Meaning any form of imagery had to be a secondary element, and not the main focus.
My memories of reading started around the ages of three to five. I can recall the first time I read a book by myself. I was ecstatic. My favorite early child-hood book was with out a doubt Curious George. I had a positive memory of reading. It was not a hard concept for me to grasp. I loved reading anything I could get my hands on. That included newspaper and magazines. I also learned a lot by reading other people. For instance my Dad, he taught me so much about life and what it takes to succeed. He instilled the will to read and learn.
reading will always be all around us. It is apart of my everyday life. If had to choose, reading as a child is a comfortable memory. Although reading now is not all that exciting, doesn't mean I can’t get anything out of it. Reading is the plug to get your brain going. This semester I want to read Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Hopefully, this novel will interest me
My passion for reading began in kindergarten when my teachers came to the consensus that I was behind and needed extra help in reading and writing. My grandmother enlisted me in a tutoring program, and I joined in a special class at school with other kids who were having similar troubles. An activity that began as mandatory, developed into a past time I would forever cherish. My interest of reading would soon develop into a need for writing. To the outside world, I was quiet. While I was shy and an introvert as a child, what I didn’t say with words I wrote on paper. With a book or a pencil, I could transport myself to any place or time I could ever possibly think of. I was not always happy at home, like all families, mine had some issues. However, through literature, I
Reading has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a little child. I grew up as a normal child should grow and eventually I had to start learning for me to fit in society. My literacy started many years ago, after I knew how to talk and communicate with people. Reading my alphabet was quite stressful and I had to be given a hand by my family members. I remember my parents reading with me and it was the most meaningful and memorable way to spend time with me. This is because I liked reading a lot and I was eager to learn so that I could fit in with my older siblings. My favorite books were storybooks taking about adventures and fairytales
While she was on her “ten year maternity leave,” she didn’t stop teaching, but instead instilled knowledge upon me and my siblings. By giving me an early start on learning to read enjoyably, I have always enjoyed reading and always will. I can remember several books that I have read throughout the years. In second grade, I read Where the Red Fern Grows and it was one of my first, big reads. In third and fourth grade, I completed the Percy Jackson series. In fourth and fifth grade, I read the entire Harry Potter series and began rereading them in 7th grade. Over my many years of school, I try my hardest to keep a book in my backpack at all times which is all thanks to the support given to me by my mother.
In elementary school I loved to go to the school’s library and check out books. Reading books was a big competition in those school days because they would have us students check out accelerated reader books known
Reading leave me a lot of good things, such as learning what is going on around the
My parents instilled a passion for reading in me even as a toddler; years later, an excellent,
I read an average of a book a day. New technology has made it so easy. With my kindle I am able to access thousands of books and able to read them all. I would go as far as to I am addicted to books. It very hard for me to put down a book and do other things. I love reading because you are able to live so many people’s lives. I get lose in a different person’s world. I cry when something sad happens and feel joy when something good happens. In a certain mystery series I was recently reading I got so into the book that reading them gave me really bad anxiety and I couldn’t finish the series because it left me so emotionally drained. It wasn’t a good feeling. Most of the time I enjoy being in the character’s life. I would love to share my love for books and help kids discover theirs by being an elementary librarian. I TA for the elementary library and I love it, but I am a little leary of choosing that field because so many books are online nowadays. I think it would be awesome to get to be with little kids and books all
