Vegan, undoubtedly, provides the character (Arnaud) a modern personality. For instance, in the movie, Arnaud’ characteristics, wit, brilliance, deception, greediness, boldness appearance; all these qualities can be found of modern personality. For him, shining Arnaud as if the main character the director’s prejudice is clearly obvious towards this character throughout the movie. Yet, Vigne with his movie and character, themes is able to capture and keep the audience’s attention. Davis character (Bertrandes) willingness to lie to the court in an effort to keep Arnaud live with her, scarify with her life to save him when the uncle try to kill him. All of her qualities, such as lying, deception, desire, scarifying and betrayal are really appealing to the modern reader. Thus, Davis is hit the target to capture and keep the reader’s attention.
