For long time, art and design came to gather and everybody mistakenly thought design is for decoration. Now a day, it is completely acceptable for everyone that design has found its current place between all humanity and sciences’ field. Paola Antonelli, design curator at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), in her talk in 2007 claimed that there is a possibility to approach to the idea of the design as an instruction or a direction rather than a prescription of form. During resent decade, many designers have tried to separate art and design and introduce the design as an independent tendency. They believe that the essence of art and design are different. Professor Jae-Jin Shim explained that “Art is something driven by instinct, but design has to be based on a rational and commercial purpose” and John Maeda in 2012 argued that there’s a difference between art and design, and it matters. “Designers create solutions – the products and services that propel us forward. But artists create questions — the deep probing of purpose and meaning that sometimes takes us backward and sideways to reveal which way “forward” actually is.” Indeed, the act of design is creating a link between our present life and the future by deciphering the possibilities that can be found in multiple perspectives. John Maeda believes that “good design will be born from consideration of multiple perspectives. It should be something we haven’t even dreamed of yet.“ Last year, MoMA held a special exhibition, Applied design, to show how design has branched out in new directions and attracting worldwide attention. In an exhibition’s description, they argued that “Like physics, design will be loosely divided into the theoretical and the applied. They try to use design authority in order to improve and integrate things and help society to adjust to a new reality. The point is to apply these entire revolutionary, three elements must change in society: “the social structure, consumer behavior and cultural acceptance.” The fact is currently there are no more technological constraints. Therefore, we just need to have a group of designer who have a have strong vision to make a decision and accept the role of leadership. The importance of this position is clear in an example that Petteri Kolinen said in the European Design Innovation Summit about his Nokia experience, “This led to slowness in introducing new products, and much more conservative decisions. The company dropped from being a front runner into a follower position.”
