Are You A Digital Mom?
What is a Digital Mom?
So, what is a Digital Mom anyway? My idea of a digital Mom (or Dad) is someone who takes care of their kids while working from home on their computer, working in the digital market for an income. The internet allows Moms and Dads to stay at home and be with their kids while making a reasonable income online. It is nice extra cash to pay some bills or car loan, even take a vacation.
Life can be stressful when you have to rush out the door to your 9 to 5 job. Believe me I have done this when my kids were quite small and it was rewarding but tiring. You may find comfort in knowing there is an opportunity out there, to learn about the digital economy and make a living online. It is an education you

My Virtual Child didn’t have very many challenges and was proud to see her development from infant to adulthood. I felt as a virtual parent, I was confident in the decisions I made and always did what I felt was best for my Virtual Child. I let her have some freedom and do what interest her, but at the same time was able to discipline her when needed. My ideas about parenting were somewhat accurate; I was able to put up with the child’s temperament; I was able to deal with the challenges that came with parenting; and I raised a well-developed child that I’m proud of. Raising a child, parents have to be willing to make sacrifices, take on lots of responsibilities, and have good decision making because the child relies on their parents more than anyone
With the decrease in cost, computers are becoming easier for low income families to own, and gain technological skills that they may have not once been able to acquire. “In 1997 only 37 percent of households with incomes from $15,000 to $24,999 used computers at home or at work,” says Samuelson. That number grew to 47 percent in just four years, while during the same years; usage among families with incomes over $75,000 rose only 7 percent, from 81 percent to 88 percent. A fear that came from the idea of the digital divide was that low wage earners would not be able to purchase a computer or gain the computer skills needed to be competitive in the job market and their children would also suffer from a disadvantage. Samuelson’s data shows otherwise, the amount of computers in homes is actually greater among lower earners than higher earners. Also, as of 2000 most public school systems were connected to the internet with one computer for every four children, giving students that may not have a computer at home the opportunity to gain basic computer
These debates have generated a new term referred to as the “mommy track.” The “mommy track” is a new option many employers have for working women to consider. It involves making the switch from working full time to a career path calling for part-time employment, allowing for more time to be spent at home with the children. Today, many large corporations are considering implementing “mommy track” option.
I interviewed Ms. Margaret Dolgenos, The CEO and CFO of an internet company, Cruzio, in Santa Cruz, California. Ms. Dolgenos has degrees in Administrative Sciences from Yale University, which she considered to be insufficient in her career, and Computer Science and Engineering from University of California, Santa Cruz. With a rather unconventional start to her career in several different fields, including teaching English in Taiwan for four years, before beginning to work at an answering service in the mid 1980’s where she would meet her future husband and business partner, Chris Neklason. Both were very interested in computers and visited many early examples of internet connections. Both felt that with a little work the new technology could
A real education is something that everyone should value, and all of us should strive to live up to our true potential. Contrary to popular belief, heading off to a four-year college to reach that true potential may not necessarily be the right choice for everyone. Vocational training is not only less expensive than college, but it is also a better use of time and provides students with skills critical for their job of interest. In six months, the class of 2014 will put on their caps and gowns and walk across the stage with their diplomas. All of those graduates will be excited to move onto the next chapter of life. But what path will they choose? Will they go with the flow, or will they take a walk down the unbeaten path?
Back in my parents’ time, the mom community were a bunch of neighborhood mothers. They hosted slumber parties and watched the children play outdoors. Mothers provided the pickle and spaghetti jars for catching lightning bugs. Modern day world, only two decades later is a completely different ball field. The reason for this is the severe advances in technology. If you aren’t on social media sites, such as Facebook you are out of the loop. Not only must you have a Facebook account, but you need to know all the abbreviations and modern day research associated with being a parent. In the text that follows, you will be informed of all the abbreviations, the research, and the beliefs that mothers are expected to follow to blend in with the social media community.
Today Moms. “Are you worried technology is impacting your kid’s ability to communicate face to face?” Today Moms. n.p. January 2010 November 2011.
As we grow up, we are taught that after High School we have to attend college and earn a degree. Although graduating from a University and acquiring a degree will open more opportunities, it is not the only path that can be taken to become a successful individual. For graduates who feel that college is not for them, there is other available options including, starting a business, trade schools, military, or even becoming an artist. In this weeks Blog, as we interviewed our fellow students we found that each individual had their own game-plan and reasoning's behind the decisions and paths they plan on taking.
Born in the eighties, I entered a world of big hair and bad style. In the technological realm there were tape players, VCR’s, and fresh on the market: personal computers. Apple was domination the computer scene with their introduction of the Lisa computer. But not for long, soon computer technology would jump to unimaginable heights. As I grew up the technology around me would continue to grow and advance – quite rapidly I might add.
In a society with the muajority of mothers joining or returning to the workforce, there is a growing body of research documenting the demands placed on these women and what can be done to help their transition into this new role. According to the United States’ Department of Labor, in the year 2012, 70.5% of mothers with children under the age of 18 were a part of the workforce; of these women 73.7% were employed full-time, working over 35 hours a week, and 26.3% were employed part-time, working less than 35 hours a week (United States Department of Labor, 2012). Given this information, it is becoming more important to further research how this new role as an employee affects the role of parenting and what can be done to help this transition. The intent of this paper is to compare the experiences of a working mother to the current research on the topic of working mothers. Moreover, this paper addresses the demands placed on working mothers as well as the factors that ameliorate their transition into this new role.
The field of young entrepreneurs looking to create their own success in the business world is rife with digital and app based start-ups. In fact, if you were to sit down 100 business students and asked them what their big business idea was, odds are plenty of them would take the form of a digitally based product. There is no doubt that success can be found in such realm, history tells us that, but many young entrepreneurs are finding that there is still plenty of life in so-called ‘traditional sectors’.
Online courses soon will prevail over the traditional high school and college education. Online Universities will create classes sponsored by companies. These companies will direct the universities on the materials of the course. The company will then offer those who pass the course a job. This will created a skilled worked specifically for a position in a company. Teachers will take a backseat in these courses. Teachers will offer one-on-one help and help people work collaboratively. These teachers will be more of a guide then a true classroom teacher.
Today’s reality is that young people will require a new set of knowledge, skills, and dispositions to succeed in our rapidly changing, knowledge-based, global economy. This requires that learners have opportunities to explore, test, venture, and create so they can develop the assets they will need to benefit from and contribute to an increasingly information-filled world. At the very start, internet revolution was known as a world wide web that would change everything. In 1990s, the concept of "online business" was created, this business is known by various names such as dot-coms, e-biz etc. which made easier to start a business on internet and inexpensive as well. Whether it's a big or a small, local or international it can reach infront of the world very easily. Thousands of ventures have been made on internet for online business on the basis of brick and mortar. Online business is not different from any other venture. Same rules and principles are applied. First thing to start up a business is to create a business plan and think of how to make money. Some of the options which should be applied for an online business includes, sell products, sell advertising, sell information, sell services and to become a reseller. All of these options are complied together. For any virtual business an individual should always look for products with high margins, high demand and less competition either for physical or digital manner. However, many services are sold on internet such as web hosting, domain name registration, software applications and comparison of different products and services. Selling information is another basic option in an online business which is done in two forms, one is subscribing on a website where online articles are available for free and on the other hand e-books are popular and are free, they can be downloaded easily plus when the writing is done the cost of subscription is very low. Advertising on internet leads toward a lot of money though it's an expensive procedure, with a lot of traffic on a web site one can make money easily by joining any kind of ad network such as Google. By getting affiliated with another web site can also make a lot of money such as sending a buyer on another merchant's web page, like this one can get a percentage on per sale basis but first an individual needs to get expert in marketing for search engines.
