First of all, I want to go to the same school with my brother. Being twins, I feel like a half piece of me is in California and another half in Massachusetts. It is not normal for twins to be separated, they should be together. Phillip and I have been so close growing up. He is my best friend. I miss my brother a lot because he lives 2,987.1 miles away. Thanksgiving Breaks and Christmas Breaks are precious to me because I get to enjoy time with my twin brother. It pains me to wave goodbye to Phillip at the airport because I will not see him for another 2 or so months. I know that my brother feels alone on plane rides and I think I can change that by going to Deerfield with him. In addition, it is also frustrating to my parents because of the long-distance separation. During the parent weekend, my mom took care of me while my dad visited my brother. It would be easier for my parents if we both went to Deerfield. From my brother, I heard a lot about Deerfield’s awesome education environment, athletics and the diverse friends he has made. I believe that I can also excel in Deerfield’s classes, athletics, clubs and be able to contribute greatly to Deerfield community. Meanwhile, at Great Oak High School, I have been busy with my classes and extracurriculars. Academically, I try to challenge myself and go outside my comfort zone by taking 3 rigorous AP classes. Moreover, I have a great passion for learning especially math and science. In the Deerfield Daily Bulletin, I read about an interesting summer research program called Research Science Institute (RSI) at MIT, where Deerfield students go to study over the summer. I wish to go to that program too. For extracurriculars, I love to do community service because I love to help people. ... ... middle of paper ... ...ad an abnormal condition. When my skin returned backed to normal, I aspired to become a dermatologist because I did not want other people to experience the emotional trauma that I went through. I want people to feel comfortable and beautiful in their own skin. Furthermore, I hope Deerfield will prepare me for college. I hope Deerfield will prepare me for life as a dynamic person in society. In the future I hope to go to an Ivy College such as Harvard University and study at their medical school. Lastly, my parents have influenced my life with their kind and warm personality. Without them, I would not be the kind and happy person right now. As a final point, Deerfield is my single choice and the only school I am applying to. I will be deeply honored to be accepted to Deerfield, and if I do I promise to give back to the Deerfield community. I love Deerfield.
Pondering about this journey in service, I often wonder how much different my life would have been without experiencing all of the amazing opportunities. Not only the places I have been as a result of my term as Lieutenant Governor of Division 15B, but where I would be as a person if I had decided that I did not want to venture into something new. Throughout my term servicing my division I have guided these schools to having a one hundred percent Officer Information Form submissions weeks in advance of the November deadline, have established connections between organizations such as the local Humane society and March of Dimes Foundation with the clubs within my division, and have made multiple attempt to recharter a Kiwanis club for three
When I was young, I was always told to do the best I can possibly can and achieve the best of grades. To be flawless and to be exemplary at everything I do. These sayings said to me mostly by my Mom, have led me and helped me to, in many ways become preeminent in my education. As I was growing up those sayings have helped me to achieve excellence wherever possible, and most of the time over achieve excellence.
I would like to thank Salish Kootenai College for giving me the wonderful opportunity of applying for STEM academy. If somebody had told me that I would be applying for college classes as a sophomore, I would not have believed them. My parents have always told me that when an opportunity comes, you should take it, and I do not plan on letting this experience go to waste. Education has been a big part of my life, and this academy can only help me move forward. That being said, here are a few reasons why I should be considered a candidate for the STEM academy. Joining the STEM academy will allow me to further my knowledge and help me to get closer to my goals, my academic career would flourish, and I would be closer to my ambition for my future. I am determined to become the best and most educated version of myself that I can possibly be.
The election night of 2000 was a pivotal moment in my life. I stayed up all night on November 7th, 2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip-flop between Gore and Bush, but because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis—an autoimmune disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans—the June before, and I had my Bar-Mitzvah in September. According to the Jewish religion, I had become an adult, and as such, I had decided to greet my new medical challenges with gusto, attempting to see the silver lining from the very beginning. I cannot say that I am glad I was nature’s statistical anomaly, but I am thankful for the opportunity to see from a young age how to turn a tough situation into a positive. After almost nine years, I come back to this pivotal night in my life because it marked a change that still plays a part in my life now, and will continue to shape me in the future.
Some of my extracurricular activities include Science Olympiad, STEM Academy, International Club, Advanced Academics Club, and Chem Club. During high school I have participated in various community-based organizations, the two most common being Beta Club and National Honor Society. However while these clubs have allowed me to give back to my community in numerous ways, it was strangely not either of these clubs that expanded my interest in the following particular social issue. Rather it was my involvement in Science Olympiad, specifically volunteering to help run a local Elementary school tournament, that expanded my view of the STEM field.
Looking back in time, I realize that God set the stage for me working with multi-ethnic ministry by ordering each step and influencing every endeavor. For over thirty years, I educated a broad sector of Illinois public school children representative of different economic, racial, cultural and environmental backgrounds.
As a student in the classroom, I have consistently challenged myself with honors and AP classes. Some of these include various honors and AP Sciences, History, and English. Throughout my four years, I have stayed active in school by being a part of the baseball and the robotics program. I have also dabbled in the environmental club as well as best buddies. I had the opportunity to manage the varsity baseball team my junior year. During the course of my junior year as well, I was blessed with the privilege of being a member of the Mountain Pointe Robotics team, Pridetronics, and their drive team. During the season, we won both our regional and state competitions and was able to travel to St.Louis, Missouri as a part of the FRC national
Cliffside Park High School has offered me numerous opportunities. I took honors courses in English, mathematics, and science ever year. In addition, I have taken three years of Spanish as a third language and an advanced placement class for U.S. history. Throughout the past couple years; I have been able to sustain a high grade point average of about a 4.4 (based on calculations made at the end of sophomore year) and make High Honor Roll for almost every marking period. However, my journey to where I am now was not a perfect yellow brick road. Instead, it was a path with many twists and turns that led me through many dark and awful experiences. As a student, I am an active participant in my academic and extracurricular activities. My first priority has always been to make good grades and learn in school. Although this is important to me, I also know that by participating in clubs, sports, and after school activities, I will become a well-rounded student. During the past years of my high school career I have participated and received awards in the following: Cheerleading (eight years), twice as captain, '97 -'98 Varsity Letter in Cheerleading, '98 AIM scholar, Who's Who Among American Cheerleaders, and '98 Academic Excellence Award while participating in Virginia High School League Interscholastic Activities. I also belonged to the following clubs: S.A.D.D. club (two years), second year as secretary, Pep Club, Varsity Club, Choir Club, and Computer Club. In the year '99 -'00 I received awards in the following classes: Computer Applications, Spanish I, World Geography, and Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry. I also received an award for Most Encouraging Student. I currently belong to the Hiking and Outdoor Club, Ski Club, Pep Club, and Environmental Awareness Club. In addition, this year I participate in a program called Read With A Friend. In this program I, along with a group of other students, go to the near by elementary school to read to a class of students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
Seven years ago, when I decided to enter the school of medicine, my dream was to be able to help people, to take responsibility of their health so they can live their lives and achieve their dreams. Having always been fascinated by science, pursuing this interest and practicing medicine became a passion to me.
When my dad was gone I had to help my mom and Ross out with some of Ross’ treatments, like the pressure garments that kept his skin grafts on. I learned a lot about the medical world from an early age which has been fueled by the science that I learned in school and has been nurtured by my love for it. For the rest of my life I hope that I will be able to keep this love going with a career in medicine working as a G.P, or a General Practitioner, so that I can help people stay happy and healthy just as my family got help so long
As a full time student and a part time worker, the demanding course load of physics classes in addition to working for 20-30 hours per week during any time of the year, I am usually too overwhelmed to be able to participate in an extracurricular activity that requires regular schedule or demands significant dedication. However, before I started my first year at college, I was a semi-professional soccer player who had been playing soccer regularly for about four hours per day for seven consecutive years. Despite my talent and interest in soccer, my family never allowed me to turn my semi-professional career as a soccer player, playing either for fun or for winning local tournaments in Iran, into a profession due to fear of serious injuries which my family could not afford when I was younger. Times passed and during the last year of high school, I found a new passion that was Physics. Regarding my intellectual interests, I love philosophy, particularly, the philosophy of religion.
In the future, I wish to obtain an occupation in the medical field. I would like to start out by working for a Biology major and working in a premedical field in college where I can use my interest in medicine and my curiosity for knowledge to gain insight that would be needed to become a helpful doctor in the medical field. As I move along in my career, I would like to work my way through the pathway so that I can expand my skills in healing others, such as diagnostic abilities, effectively giving treatment and so on. I want to learn as much as possible so I can fulfill my ultimate dream of helping others that need answers to their medical problems and so that more people can live happily and healthily in the world. I hope to bring happiness to others and allowing people to live comfortably.
The multitudes of extracurricular and academic activities I participate in were chosen because of their focus on my interests. I want to pursue a career in computer engineering and/or biological engineering. In order to help me accomplish this I carefully consider how extracurricular and academic activities will assist me in the future. Currently I am participating in several rigorous academic courses such as AP Physics C and AP Calculus BC to gear me towards a college environment, as well as a variety of clubs that focus on engineering and the sciences. A vast majority of the classes I take are advanced placement, which gives me the chance to obtain college credit before entering college. Advance placement classes also challenge me with faster paced instruction, which prepare me for the speed and difficulty of college level courses. I am currently taking AP Biology, AP Computer Science A, , AP Literature and Composition, AP U.S. Government and Politics, Pre-AP Chinese IV, and Honors Independent Research. In terms of extracurricular activities, I currently participate in the Stock Market Club, Science and Engineering Club, our school’s FRC team, and Chinese Club. In my free time I enjoy building computers, putting together parts lists for computers, programming, playing video games, and learning about various technical jobs and new computing technologies such as server administrator and quantum computing.
Ever since I can remember, I have always dreamt of a career in medicine. I have always had a passion of saving others people's lives. Being a doctor is meant for me because I love taking the time throughout my day to make a difference in people's lives. I am willing to further my education for an extended amount of time just to fulfill my dreams of becoming a doctor. Others want to become a doctor because of money or prestige, I want to become a doctor to help the people that are ill. My grandmother, who has been suffering from Cancer for 3 years is recovering from therapy. Even though, she experiences skin problems frequently, the doctors are still doing everything in their power to help her recover. Her hair have started to grow back and she is back to her normal self. This is one of the reasons why I want to be a doctor. When one is a doctor, people look up to that individual when they are at their weakest point. When they have no one else a doctor helps maintain a sense of hope for the patient and his or her family.
