Why do we as humans feel as if testing on animals will somehow lead us to great findings and advances in medicines and cosmetics? As if an animal has the same DNA as us or the same genes. What if the animal on the testing table was your beloved dog or cat? Would you then think differently about the products you 're buying? The human race is nothing like the animals we test on. It is selfish of us to use animals for our own personal reasons. Although there are many reasons we as humans test on animals there are also many more reasons we should not. Some of the concerns for animal testing are if the results are actually accurate on human trials and why we have to test on innocent animals when we can test using modern technology.
Two of the main tests done on animals for cosmetics is the LD-50 test and Draize test. These tests are used to approve the safety of their products. Federal laws require the testing of specific products on animals. “The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requires animal testing for pharmaceutical drugs and other chemical compounds that change the structure and function of the human body”. The Draize test is used to measure the potential harmfulness on humans by observing how they react on the skin and eyes of animals. “In the Draize test for eye irritancy, various concentrations of products are applied directly into the animal 's eyes, which can cause intense burning, itching and pain”. The draize test for skin irritancy are applied to the shaved skin of the animal or abraded skin. They abrade the skin by pressing tape onto the animal and then stripping of layers of skin. These tests are given seven days a week for up to two years. The LD-50 test is used to measure acute toxicity levels of ingredients...

...mal tests will fail in human trials. Animals are being harmed and tortured just for the sake of humans. Majority of the time they are being tested on by someone with no background and has no knowledge on what they 're doing. Testing on animals isn 't necessary anymore when there are so many advances in technology we could use. Companies could also use the products that have already been deemed safe for humans and don 't need more testing. Anyone can help out and put a stop to the senseless animal testing that is going on in laboratories simply by refusing to buy products tested on animals. By putting a stop to animal testing we will be saving billions of dollars on research that isn 't even successful, saving lives by not taking risky chances on testing out medicines we are unsure about, and overall stopping the killing of innocent animals for the sake of “science”.
