Why do we as humans feel as if testing on animals will somehow lead us to great findings and advances in medicines and cosmetics? As if an animal has the same DNA as us or the same genes. What if the animal on the testing table was your beloved dog or cat? Would you then think differently about the products you 're buying? The human race is nothing like the animals we test on. It is selfish of us to use animals for our own personal reasons. Although there are many reasons we as humans test on animals there are also many more reasons we should not. This includes dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, pigs, sheep, monkeys,and chimpanzees. “Over 90 percent are rats, mice, and birds”. The endless tests on animals in labs never stop. They are constantly being prodded and poked. They are euthanized, anesthetized, and intubated. These are the most common lab procedures which technically should be performed by someone with a lot of training, yet most of the lab personnel lack experience. The lab conditions are extremely poor. Small crowded cages that lack activity usually cause stress in animals. “Undercover lab investigations show animals biting wounds, mutilating themselves, and ripping out their own hair. This is called “stress- induced psychosis”. Stress experiments include immobilizing mice and rats in tubes, suspending them by their tales, and forcing them to swim to avoid drowning. “Researchers claimed these experiments had relevance to human anxiety and depression”. Animals do not live in the real world nor do they have the same anxiety or stress that humans have. Lab experiments cannot replicate real stress from jobs or school.
