Anglicanism is a denomination within Christianity comprising the Church of England and churches which are historically tied to it or have similar beliefs, worship practices and church structures. Anglicans base their faith on the Bible, traditions of the apostolic the concept of apostolic succession, and writings of the Church Fathers. Anglicanism forms one of the branches of Western Christianity, having fully declared its independence from the Holy See at the time of the Elizabethan Religious Settlement. (Sentamu, 2012) The Anglican Church of Southern Africa is the province of the Anglican Communion in the southern part of Africa. This diocese is made up of both “low” and “high” churches. The former referring to parishes that do not follow a strict liturgical structure in their services, whilst the latter, also known as Anglo-Catholic churches, are usually more old-fashioned in their worship style and share many doctrinal beliefs with the Roman Catholic Church. The titles “Anglo-Catholic” and “Anglican Catholic”, are labels associated with Christians, beliefs, and practices within Anglicanism which emphasise their Roman Catholic heritage and identity of some Anglican churches. A “Catholic Revival” was started in 1833 at the University of Oxford by some Anglican clergy. There are even certain groups of Anglo-Catholics, often referred to as Anglo-Papalists, which view themselves under the Holy See, even though they are not in any form of formal communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Anglo-Papalists, often celebrate their Mass in the modern Catholic rite and seek reunion with the Catholic Church.

Conclusion
Anglicanorum Coetibus has indeed been the sought after form of unity which many Anglo-Catholics have, for centuries, have been longing for. With the potential unifying of two large Christian denominations, one can conclude that power and ideological status shall indeed be realigned and re-examined. Whilst the two churches do have many similarities, it is at times human nature to focus on the differences. Whilst there has not been any harsh criticism from the Anglican Communion on the matter, the relatively low response indicates a reluctance of the vast majority of Anglicans to enter into full communion with the pope indicates that an ideological shift may not be a priority for an already internally conflicted church.
Here we must make an aside in regard to the U.S. Catholic culture in America is practically non-existent, except in attenuated form among such peoples as the Hispanos and Indians of Northern New Mexico, the Cajuns and Creoles of Louisiana and the other Gulf States, and the old English Catholic settlements of Maryland and Kentucky. Elsewhere the Faith was brought by immigrants, and its attendant culture has, like all imported ones in the States, veered between preservation and assimilation. This was exacerbated by the fact that Catholic leadership in the United States was early committed to a programme of cultural melding. In addition, this leadership was primarily Irish, a nationality which had been deprived of much of its native culture by centuries of Protestant Ascendancy. Hence it has been extremely difficult for Americans, even American Catholics, to understand or appreciate the Catholic thing (as Chesterton described it) in a cultural context. I am reminded of the astonishment of a classmateof mine (from a typical American Catholic High School) at seeing an anthology of Catholic poetry. This situation has been greatly accentuated in the past twenty years by the changes occurring after Vatican II.
By 1763, although some colonies still maintained established churches, other colonies had accomplished a virtual revolution for religious toleration and separation of church and state. The Anglican Church was the only established denomination in England. In contrast, the colonies supported a great variety of churches. The largest were the Congregationalist, Anglican, and German churches, but many smaller denominations could be found through the colonies. In addition to this, a high percentage of Americans didn’t belong to any church. These differences could be attributed to the fact that many of the Europeans who immigrated to America didn’t fit in to or agree with the churches in their homelands.

In addition, despite the fact both the Acts of Supremacy reinforced royal control, Henry being confirmed as ‘Supreme Head of Church’ would have had a greater impact on the relationship between the Church and State in the 16th century than Elizabeth becoming ‘Supreme Governor’ because Elizabeth’s title still applied that the pope was supreme head whilst Henry’s highlighted the fact that Henry was the only head of church - further undermining the influence of the

I agree with Kitchens, Mead, and Roxburgh who all basically say in their own way that one change in ministry that we need to focus on more is the congregational life of the church. However, I think Mead explains it best when he says that the future church must be more intentional in the spiritual formation of its laity (Mead, location 919). According to Mead, the church is moving towards becoming a more missional institution that cares for the needs of the community. Therefore, oftentimes laity will be the ones on the front lines and will need the capacity to minister to people on their own without the help of clergy. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, vicars were under direct authority from Rome, and controlled the Roman Catholic Church of England. It was not until the early nineteenth century, under Pope Pius IX, that the Church decided to split England into several smaller districts, each headed by a bishop. London papers began following the growth and leadership change of the Roman Church in England. One article in The Times stated that "Rome had mistaken the High Church renewal, the Oxford Movement, within the Church of England for a Romeward move" (qtd. in Bowen 148). Several bishops tried to explain to The Times and its readers that the new hierarchy was simply a matter of church government and had nothing to do with politics or national life in England. The Roman Catholic Church thought that it would be better for their congregations to have a local bishop they could rely on, rather than having nearly all of the control in Rome.

Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I may have been the English Reformation’s greatest benefactors, all because of self interest. Henry VIII was not originally Protestant, but after the pope denied him of his divorce, Henry VIII took things into his own hands. Due to the power kings had in the Middle Ages, Henry VIII was able to control Parliament and force it to do whatever he wanted. So in 1534, Henry VIII forced Parliament to pass a law he made known as the Act of Supremacy. The Act of Supremacy stated that the king ought to be the head of the Church of England. This law gave the king complete power over the Church of England, instead of the pope. However, the type of church and state relationship did not change. Rather all the Act of Supremacy did was take power from the pope and give it to the king. Surprisingly, the Catholics did not retaliate against this strong change. The pope had always been the head of the church, but now the king had taken his position. This serves as an example of nationalism. The Catholics did not think about how removing the pope could harm their religion in any way. However, instead the people blindly followed Henry VIII because he was the leader of the nation and they assumed he was right. After the death of Henry in 1547, a 10 year old Edward came to the throne. The English Church became increasingly Protestant in worship and doctrine under the Protestant Lord Somerset. Mary succeeded the throne after Edward’s death in 1553. Mary was a devout Catholic and saw it her mission to restore Catholicism back to England. She used mainly persecution to do this, by burning Protestants for not renouncing their beliefs, these actions turned many English people against Catholicism.
