It has always been much speculated, and little doubt exists that the bible was not the work of any single author, but a collection of anecdotes by many. In fact, conservatives are as likely to believe the Bible is the actual word of God as to believe it is the inspired word of God. Respondents to the Gallup poll were given three options as responses to the poll, and most chose the one that states – The Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word, so that child DID get born in THAT manger – end of story. One cannot help but shudder. There was a book entitled Messiah – by author Gore Vidal – that seems chillingly accurate in foretelling a most disturbing religious future of blind faith and complete devotion, with loss of self an integral part. I truly hope it is not too late for humanity to come to its senses.
