The latest computer software to be developed, by an Israeli team, analyzes style and word choices to distinguish different authors, and using it proving to be an interesting experience for researchers. Authorship attribution, as this new software is dubbed, offers intriguing clues about the many creators of the Bible, though its use can be very varied, and both ordinary writers and police agencies will find it beneficial to their work. It must be said, however that the bible in particular made a wonderful test subject.
Some believe that the texts were composed by so-called priestly authors, purportedly connected to Jerusalem temple priests, while others see the writers involved non-priestly. Though separating the writings of these two groups is no easy task. The new software did, however, simplify the process, achieving a 90% match with the accepted academic division.
The program was, effectively recreating multiple scholars work, of many years, in mere moments, and in those areas where the program disagreed with accepted dogma, scholars found interesting information, such as the fact of Genesis, chapter one, NOT having been created by a priestly author, as had always been supposed.
