Did you know that five million to seven million companion animals enter shelters nationwide each year? Spaying and neutering pets needs to be supported by more communities of people. The American Kennel Club (AKC) is opposed to mandatory sterilization, they state that it, “creates a hardship for responsible breeders.” Spaying and neutering is typically seen by a majority of the population as inhumane and an unnecessary violation of animal rights. The American Veterinary Medical Associations recommend that state and local governments develop effective dog and cat population control programs. A few of those reasons are because getting your animals fixed increases your furry friends longevity, helps to keep the pet population at the average level, and it allows other animals to be adopted, as well as preventing some from being euthanized. If we want to have our pets around, and stop seeing the homeless ones being put down, then we must take action ourselves. We need to come together and agree that spaying and neutering is a way better option than getting the animals that don’t have a home killed. After all, there are more benefits than disadvantages.
