Anatomy has to do with the structure of the body, or how it is made. Physiology has to do with how it all works together. Just like a car, unless you know all of the parts, how they work individually, and also how they work together, you won 't know how to figure out what the source of the problem is, or how to fix it.
One of the few systems in the body is the respiratory system. Each system has an important job in keeping the body functioning. The respiratory system is responsible for getting the oxygen from the air to the blood. Many parts make up this movement of air in and out of the body. It all starts with the nose and mouth. These are the openings that allow the air to enter, and how the air is let out. It is even filtered, moistened, and warmed by the mucous membranes in the nose and mouth. Just a little farther back is the pharynx. Depending on which route is taken, the air will either pass through the oropharynx, or the nasopharynx. Oropharynx being the mouth, and nasopharynx being the nose.
Slightly farther down, the pharynx will break off into two separate pipes, the esophagus and the trachea. The esophagus leads to the stomach. The trachea, also known as the wind pipe," will lead to the lungs. Directly above the opening of the trachea is the larynx, also known as the "voice box." The larynx is what holds the vocal chords.
