With hindsight comes insight. When looking back at experiences, connections, and meanings can reveal themselves to us. That then provides a greater depth of understanding for that experience, providing assurance of if we make good choices despite harsh judgment. In the essay “Working at Wendy’s”, the narrator Joey nurtures his understanding for what it means to work a low-end job and to understand that people can’t be judged fully on their current career position. I think a common theme between the two would be people have prejudices and an unwillingness to think beyond a label. In “Working at Wendy’s” Joey faces people’s judgments on him just because of his uniform and job. He is a good person and is just in-between jobs but had to get something in the meantime. Yet people consider him to be a failure at life befitting for ridicule. Joey faced people’s judgments every day for no reason other than superficial things that say nothing about the person inside the Wendy’s uniform he was wearing. They see the uniform and all they see is the label “Wendy’s Employee” or “Fast Food Servant”. So in a similar way, I face people’s judgments and assumptions when I tell them I was “homeschooled”. When they hear the word “homeschooled”, they picture me yanked out of school by an overbearing mother who would lecture me all day or that I was prohibited from social contact beyond my home. They instantly question why would I ever put up with homeschool, how could I have lived with myself in such a horrible childhood. When in reality I had a great childhood. Homeschool was my idea and it gave me free time, time to do more socializing, learning and development than any other person my age that were instead stuck in classrooms for 6 hours a day. These things though are trends and responses I didn’t understand at first, why people think certain things until later on. Same with Joey, it takes time to process why people say judgmental things, to not be hurt but to understand and reason on why they think this or that. Hindsight provides an ability to make connections using further understanding that comes with time. We are told to “never judge a book by its cover” but that’s exactly what a majority of people do very quickly. On the other hand, Africa and Central Asia do not have nearly as many McDonalds because their economies are weaker than North America, East Asia and Europe. Family, education and a person’s opportunities are significant elements that collectively define an individual, as demonstrated by both Wes Moore’s. Depending on the opportunities offered to you and whether you decide to take advantage of them through hard work and persistence will result in your success or failure in the end. Wes Moore explains “The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. Sammy is a teenager, nineteen and works at the supermarket A&P. He tells about an experience he had the day he quit working at A&P. Sammy can be opinionated, sarcastic, and has great observational skills. In the essay, “Working at McDonald’s,” Amitai Etzioni shares his strong belief that working, especially at McDonald’s type restaurants, is bad for teenagers. I would agree that working is not a good thing for teenagers under some circumstances but at other times it is good. First, jobs affect school involvement and attendance in bad ways. McDonald's Corporation is the largest fast-food operator in the World and was originally formed in 1955 after Ray Kroc pitched the idea of opening up several restaurants based on the original owned by Dick and Mac McDonald. McDonald's went public in 1965 and introduced its flagship product, the Big Mac, in 1968. Today, McDonald's operates more than 30,000 restaurants in over 100 countries and have one of the world's most widely known brand names. McDonald's sales hit $57 billion company-wide and over $25 billion in the United States in 2006 (S&P).
The McDonald's Corporation is the largest chain of fast food restaurants in the world. It is franchised in over 119 countries and serves an average of 68 million customers daily. The company started in 1940 as a barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald in the United States. They reorganized their business as a hamburger stand in 1948. In 1955, Businessman Ray Kroc joined the company as a franchise agent. He purchased the chain from the McDonald brothers and oversaw its global-wide growth (McDonald’s 2014).

Has there ever been an experience that not only has changed your development but also has recalibrated your entire life? If you were to ask me this question i would answer yes with great exuberance. I would also state that this occurred not even a month ago. I state this response with great joy simply because I enjoy the recalibration I have encountered, since this change can enhance a better future for myself. It has let me find my true passions and let me realize my true dislikes. Most importantly it has given me a new sense of maturity I feel that I didn’t earn! But in order to explain this adjustment that has crossed my path the reader must understand what and how my life was lived previously. Following this I can describe the events of my experience that leads to the pep talk that induced me into making the change that was essential in order to improve my future.
