Movie Summary The movie, Amistad followed the events which unfolded in the ship called Amistad following the revolt by the African slaves who were being transported to America and European countries. The plot of the movie was mostly based on Owen 's book, Black Mutiny, which was published before the release of the film. The film describes how Africans were captured, enslaved, how some of them were purchased from slave merchants, how they overthrew their captors, and how such acts led to their subsequent trial in America. It also takes the audience through the trial process which culminated in African slaves winning their freedom and eventually returning to Africa. It is one of the most popular movies developed to depict and recreate the slave trade trends. Its core themes, suffering and survival make a popular movie for its audience across the world. The plot of the movie is set in 1839 when 53 African Slaves who were being transported from Cuba somehow managed to take control of the vessel which was carrying them. One of the slaves got free and released the rest. In the process, they killed some crewmembers.
