Plot Summary:
The film begins with Cassius Clay Jr. before his championship debut against then heavyweight champion Sonny Liston. Cassius Clay goes into the fight as the underdog and is able to dominate the early rounds of the match, but halfway through the fight Clay complains of a burning feeling in his eyes due to Sonny Liston attempting to blind Cassius with a substance on his glove. Michael Mann does a good job of incorporating scenes with not much going on with music to help set the mood of the scene. Also Michael Mann’s choice of cast was excellent, with actors such as Will Smith and Jamie Foxx. Will Smith does an excellent job of displaying an almost uncanny mastery of the real Ali’s mannerisms and speech patterns. Ali is a very inspirational and encouraging film that allows the viewer to get a closer feel to Muhammad Ali’s boxing career and legal turmoil. Michael Mann could improve this film by focusing in also on more of Muhammad Ali’s personal life outside of boxing and court trials. Strengths of this film were the excellent acting and intense boxing scenes which made the viewer feel as if they were actually watching a real boxing match.
The new Christian movie "Captive" is coming to theaters on September 18, and is a testimony of a drug-addict Ashley Smith, whose life changes in a seven-hour ordeal with her kidnapper Brian Nichols.
The film received mostly positive reviews. Roger Ebert praised the film as "one of those stories with the quality of a nightmare, in which foolish young men try to out-macho one another until they get trapped in a violent situation which will forever alter their lives.”
Casablanca, directed by Micahel Curtiz, is said to be one of the world 's best movies. At the time, it had an all-star cast, and apparently they are still considered legendary. The main stars of the film were Ingrid Berman as Ilsa Laslow, Humphry Bogart as Rick, and Paul Henreid as Victor Laslow. The cast did a fantastic job of portraying their characters. Rick plays the main role as a man who runs a popular “saloon” in Casablanca. His true love, Ilsa, comes with her husband, Victor, to seek for help to go to America. Upon encountering Rick, Ilsa becomes weak and wants to stay with him in Casablanca rather than go with her husband to America. Being the big-hearted person he is, Rick gets them both their visas and helps them escape to America. This was all against the French captain’s orders, but he did it to make his true love happy.
Our country currently has the highest rate of people incarcerated in the entire world. Those numbers do not include large amount of people held military facilities, U.S. territories, or U.S. immigration and customs enforcements detention centers which would more than double the numbers. The justice and prison systems have been known to have many issues regarding the way they are structured and how they function. The Kalief Browder Story, a six-part documentary series shares Kalief’s story through the many injustices he had to face and that are being done by this country’s correctional and justice system.
West Bank Story is a short musical comedy movie. Online dictionary explains musical comedy that is a comedic play or movie in which dialogue is interspersed with songs, especially one with a focus on musical numbers and a simple plot. In addition, in 2007, at the 79th Academy Awards, West Bank Story won the Oscar in the category Best Live Action Short Film (Wikipedia "West Bank"). This short movie talks about a love story between a Palestinian woman and an Israeli soldier in West Bank. People, especially who are from Palestine and Middle East countries, love this movie even though this is based on the Israelis and Arabs, and a conflicting territory. There are two impressive aspects in this successful movie that should be pointed out; the value of love can conquer and change anything and the director`s talent.
[2] In many ways, Michael Mann's film Ali attempts to do the same thing as the creators of the action figure pictured here. Mann looks at Muhammad Ali's life and tries to make him come alive through film. Ali's language, personality, and temperament were examined by the director and imitated by Will Smith. Historical events were also recreated. Obviously, this is a delicate and difficult task, and many reviewers argued that Michael Mann failed. One reviewer simply claimed: "[Mann] made a cool movie about a hot man" (Ansen 40). Nearly every popular review about Ali carries the same or a similar message.
The overall plot of this movie leaves an impact on the audience promoting thought provoking question of the hidden meaning, is the way our society works all just for show?, Does desire control people's actions?, all questions one may think after watching the plot unfold. The films ability to encourage thought provoking question is what makes this film a must see and allow many people to consider it better than the stage version. This very aspect is what completed my check list for worthiness of a best picture nomination, it left me thinking and continued to make me talk about it with my
The movie I watched this week was Casablanca. It was released in 1942, and was a romance drama film. The story is set in a city called Casablanca in a French ruled Morocco. It consists a nightclub owner named Rick Blaine striving to protect and old girlfriend named Ilsa Lund from the Nazis. Rick goes through many emotions and as the couple tries to flee from Casablanca to America they are met with many challenges like Ilsa’s already having a husband named Victor Laszlo. Ilsa eventually escapes with Victor while Rick end up staying behind. The part I loved most about this movie is the dialogue. I feel like the delivery, timing, and actors spoke them very well. How much it actually affects the personality and attitudes of the youths involved is something that many people are blind to. In the documentary “Undefeated” (2011), filmmakers Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin shine light on the positive effects that are school activities have on students’ lives and character. Based on kids that attend an inner-city school in Memphis, Tennessee, Lindsay and Martin allow their high society American audience to view new ways of helping kids who aren’t so fortunate. They show the positive life changing stories, and outcomes of players who are affected by football.

Boxer Muhammad Ali, was born as Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., on January 17, 1942, he was the son of Marcellus Clay Sr. and Odessa Grady Clay. He lived in Louisville, Kentucky where he experienced discrimination and racial prejudice towards himself and his family, which led him to his fascination towards boxing. Later in his life, he would win the Olympic gold medal for boxing in 1960 and became the world heavyweight boxing champion in 1964, and was the first fighter to recapture heavyweight champion three times. But Clay was not only a boxer, he was also a philanthropist and social activist with astonishing effrontery, he spoke out against problems such as race, religion, and politics that cause him to become such a controversial figure.
