Analysis of the Heart
The heart is one of the most important if not the most vital organs
which make up the organims that we are. The body may cope with only
one liver or kideny for example, or even with no livers ( however the
paitent must use a dialysis mahcine) but if the heart had to stop for
just a few minites it's owner would case it egsist.
Smoking causes proven direct damage to the heart and kills millions
worldwide each year. And yet millions of people do not seem to care
about statistics or sientific evidence and carry on smoking maybe
beliving that no harm will come thier way. This however is not the
case. The UK has one of the highest rates of death from heart disease
in the world - one British adult dies from heart disease every three
minutes.Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a preventable disease that
kills more than 110,000 people in England every year. 275,000 people
have a heart attack annually. CHD is the biggest killer in the
country.
Should smokers even be provided with free surgury and medical care
when they themselves have knowingly caused the damage? If I developed
CHD due to unavodiable second hand smoking and the smoker who caused
me the disease also develops HD is it not unthinkable that the smoker
would be placed before me on a waiting list?
Smoking is a major cause of coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis)
- a disease of the arteries in the heart.

Coronary artery disease is atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries.
Atherosclerosis is when the arteries become clogged and narrowed,
restricting blood flow to the heart. Atherosclerosis occurs when the
normal lining of the arteries deteriorates, the walls of the arteries
thicken and deposits of fat and plaque block the flow of blood through
the arteries. The arteries that supply blood to the heart become
severely narrowed, decreasing the supply of oxygenated blood to the
heart.
Coronary arteries are hollow tubes and allow blood to flow freely.
The heart is one of the most unique organs in the human body. Its capabilities and functions truly are amazing. The heart 's function is to pump blood throughout the body supplying oxygen and nutrients to tissues. The heart is the size of your fist and weighs roughly 8-12 ounces depending if you’re male or female. The heart pumps through 100 kilometers of blood vessels for blood that is 3 to 4 times thicker than water at 60 to 80 times minute for a total volume of 5 million liters a year at rest. A basic diagram of the heart includes, right coronary, superior vena cava, aorta, pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle. There are more in
The Tell-Tale Heart: An Analysis In Edgar Allan Poe’s short-story, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” the storyteller tries to convince the reader that he is not mad. At the very beginning of the story, he asks, "...why will you say I am mad? " When the storyteller tells his story, it's obvious why. He attempts to tell his story in a calm manner, but occasionally jumps into a frenzied rant.
Head, Heart is a piece of literature that a reader could instantly connect with beginning straightaway in the title. The universal struggle between our ‘head’ and ‘heart’ creates an immediate need for understanding of ourselves. After all, mankind have spent their lives wagering whether the personified logic or emotion wins. Children learn to use these terms to understand themselves, dividing largely significant parts of who they are into two neatly separate categories. We justify an illogical action by saying we were “following our heart” or a heartless decision with we were “using our head.” The head is given a persona as straightforward, strong, resourceful, and mature. The heart is likewise given a persona that is opposite entirely- pondering,
In “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, there are only five characters mentioned in the story: the narrator, the old man, and three police officers, none of whom is ever named. Throughout the story, the narrator tells the audience over and over that he is not mad. He becomes obsessed with trying to prove that he is not a madman and eventually goes crazy in the end. He tells the story of how he kills the old man after seven nights of watching him sleep. He has nothing against the old man and actually likes him, but it is the old man’s pale blue eye with a film over it that overwhelms the narrator with anger. This is when he decides to rid of this “vulture eye,” by murdering the old man. After finally finishing what he had set out to do, three policemen show up because of a complaint about a shriek. The narrator assures them that it was him that had shrieked because of a nightmare and asks the officers to sit with him. While talking with them, confident that they knew nothing, he starts to hear a noise increasingly get louder. He eventually cannot take it anymore and
Mostly, hope is for a person who is experiencing hopelessly and despairingly when facing with the choice of life; or perhaps it is the last thing a person does before they are defeated. According to Vaclav Havel, the author of “An Orientation of the Heart,” hope can be regarded as an orientation of the spirit and the heart as well as a dimension of the soul (106). He describes how prisoners, the below powerless people, in the early Seventies, dare to have a new self-awareness and self-liberation about things that they did before under the pressure of a powerful governs society. The greater risks they walk through, the greater hope they desire for a true moral value. Even though it is not all of their small hopes can get rewards, it is certain
“The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe is a first-person narrative short story that showcases an enigmatic and veiled narrator. The storyteller makes us believe that he is in full control of his mind yet he is experiencing a disease that causes him over sensitivity of the senses. As we go through the story, we can find his fascination in proving his sanity. The narrator lives with an old man, who has a clouded, pale blue, vulture-like eye that makes him so helpless that he kills the old man. He admits that there was no interest, no passion whatsoever in killing the old man, whom he loved. Throughout the story, the narrator directs us towards how he boldly ends up committing a horrifying murder and dissecting the corpse into pieces. Subsequently, we can observe that the conventional definition of irony is met; he tries to convince the readers about his fully sane state of mind but in turn, ends up exposing his utmost insanity. The narrator of “The Tell-Tale Heart” who claims to be sane is in fact trying to get away with the punishment for the crime that he readily admits by faking insanity through ironic means.
Fourthly, “Smoking doubles the risk of ischemic stroke” (Newman). The ischemic stroke reduces blood flow to the brain, which can cause a person death. Moreover, “50% of young deaths, below age 65, from heart disease are caused by smoking” (Newman). The reason is because of the harmful chemicals and ingredients in the cigarette. Finally, smoking can have deadly effects that can change anyone’s life in the future.
Back in 80s, the HIV/AIDS crisis was rising in New York City. More people, notably gay men, were afflicted by this terrible disease, and, in a time where there was little medical knowledge about this virus, the ordeal was quite frightening. Young men were dying, and the people just didn't know why. The Normal Heart, an original HBO film, depicts the plight of these young, unheard men in the 1980s. It is based on the largely autobiographical play written by Larry Kramer, who experienced this crisis first hand. Directed by Ryan Murphy, The Normal Heart centers around gay activist/writer Ned Weeks, played by Mark Ruffalo, a character who Kramer confesses is based on him. Weeks advocates for an increase awareness towards the HIV/AIDS crisis, and
Energy means, it is the capacity to do work. Energy metabolism is the process through which energy is produced and transformed. Food gives the energy source. We need energy to move our body muscles to do the activities. The role of energy in the body is to drag the oxygen from the air and diffuses into our blood stream. Energy is needed to circulate the blood and also for breathing and taking in oxygen.
The heart is a muscular, cone shaped, hollow organ that is only the size of our fist when we are adults (Farley, McLafferty & Hendry, 2012). The heart is located in between the lungs in the thoracic cavity with the esophagus and other structures (Farley et al., 2012). In our body the heart is facing with the cone shaped end, called the apex, to the left with the flat end (base) lying opposite (Farley et al., 2012). The heart is divided into three tissue layers: the outer layer called the pericardium, the middle layer called the myocardium and the innermost layer of tissue named the endocardium (Farley et al., 2012).
In the cardiovascular system, the heart has a big responsibility. The heart is responsible for transporting the nutrients and oxygen to the tissues in the body. The heart is also responsible for transporting waste to its rightful location and carbon dioxide back to the lungs. The heart manages to do this by pumping blood at 40 miles per an hour and beating or pumping 60 to 100 times a minute.
When smoking does a person really think about what that smoke is doing to there heart? Heart attacks and strokes are a common health risk in smoking. UK studies show that smokers in their 30’s and 40’s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers. (http://news.bbc.uk) When smoking, the chemicals contributes to the hardening of the arteries, when these are blocked then the heart is left with no blood flow, causing a heart attack. Also, smoking can increase the risk of having a stroke. Smoking is responsible for at least 20% of all deaths from heart disease in the United States. (http://community.healthgate.com)
Smoking is the leading cause of preventable morbidity and premature mortality in the United Kingdom (UK), and smoking related deaths exceed the sum of deaths from the next six most common causes of preventable mortality (HM Government, 2011). Statistics show that the prevalence of smokers is highest in the younger age group
Smoking is one of the leading killers in North America and innocent. people shouldn't die because of it. For years people have been smoking. in public thinking, "It's my body, I can do whatever I want to do." now that it has been proven that smoking not only harms the smoker.
Smokers should have their right to smoke, but should they be able to harm other people? Smokers are killing themselves slowly, along with others, because of the second-hand smoke coming from these cigarettes: as the average person takes a breath of air, the smoke polluting the air is inhaled. This is harming the non-smokers’ lungs due to the fact that the smoker is smoking in public. The environment is being destroyed by these little things all because people are smoking in public places. Unfortunately our quality of life is being harmed by the lack of consideration of others because smoking is still allowed in public areas. Smoking should be banned in public places because it causes respiratory problems, lung cancer, and oral cancer. It affects others within the area, and pollutes public places making them undesirable.
