Director Andrew Adamson’s intriguing film “Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion Witch and Wardrobe”, is based on C.S. Lewis’s novel. The film tells the story of four children who are evacuated to the countryside during the Second World War bombing of London and find a magical wardrobe that leads to another world which has been cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch Jadis. Forgiveness is a suggested theme throughout the film. There are many examples in the film that show the siblings have to go through forgiving each other and friends.
The film begins with the children’s mother sending her four children to live on the country side with a professor. Lucy who is the youngest finds a room with a wardrobe and enters it, when send finds Narnia at the end behind the jackets. The Chronicles of Narnia are enticing books, which offer a wonderful fictional plot line, but also a deeper philosophical importance if one analyzes the series. Many religious allusions can be found between characters in Narnia and biblical people. Deeper understanding can be found throughout the stories even in many overlooked aspects of everyday life. “The Chronicles of Narnia” is a piece of literature filled with religious symbols and allusions, such as the actions of Aslan and the personality of Peter, that enhance one’s perception and understanding of the books.
When we typically think of racial tropes in popular culture, we often don’t look towards animated G-rated movies. The film The Princess and the Frog released by Walt Disney Animated Classics in 2009 created by John Musker, Ron Clements and Rob Edwards is a perfect contemporary example of a film that shows images of pre-constructed racial tropes. Though Disney has produced multiple films based on past fairy tales, The Princess and the Frog was the first animated Disney princess film that featured an African American woman in a leading role. Aladdin, a Disney Classic Movie, in my opinion, teaches kids and adults alike some of life’s most important lessons. First, Aladdin teaches that sometimes what we seem to want the most is not as we expect it to be. Next, the story of Aladdin also teaches that there are always people who think just to gain for themselves even if they seem to be our most trusted friends. Most importantly, Aladdin teaches us that one must not lie about or pretend being someone that they’re not just to impress. I have found that every Disney movie has something to teach and Aladdin, in between humor, action, and love, teaches these lessons in such a memorable way.
Lewis did not intend for The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe to attempt to strike at moral standpoints. Lewis stated in an interview, “’I don’t like stories to have a moral: certainly not because I think children dislike a moral. Rather because I feel sure that the question: ‘What do modern children need?’ will not lead you to a good moral”’ (Sadler). However, his use of the innocence of children evokes the essence of purity and good. This purity conflicts with the cruelty and scorn displayed through the White Witches actions, resulting in her becoming an evil figure. The archetype of good vs. evil that writers use throughout literature has proven to be a successful means of striking intrigue in an audience. This combined with the magical setting employed by the mysterious Narnia allows Lewis’ work to be so interesting to readers through decades and generations.
There is nothing more iconic and well known than Disney artwork and movies. Anyone old enough or young enough to have some kind of recollection will be able to remember some classic movie or cartoon created by Walt Disney and his team of animators. It is amazing how a seemingly educated woman that has won Oscar awards for her documentaries, could possibly be so far off base in her review of the Disney movie “The Lion King”. Margaret Lazarus has taken a movie made for the entertainment of children and turned it into something that is racist, sexist and stereotypes gender roles. She uses many personal arguments to review the movie but offers few solutions. The author is well organized but she lacks alternate points of view and does not use adequate sources. Lazarus utilizes the statement at the end of her review that “the Disney Magic entranced her children, but they and millions of other children were given hidden messages that could only do them and us harm” (118). She makes her point by saying that “the Disney Magic reinforces and reproduces bigoted and stereotyped views of minorities and women in our society” (Lazarus 117). She makes comparisons such as elephant graveyards are like ghettos (Lazarus 118). Other lines of reasoning Lazarus gives us are about Whoopie Goldberg using inner city dialect, the villain Scar being gay, and only those born to privilege can bring about change (118).

Lewis: The Magic Never Ends). The hidden archetypes and intricate themes in this book are what sets it apart from others.
The movie takes place in Middle-earth in the Kingdom of Erebor in the Lonely Mountain where the evil dragon Smaug has taken the kingdom from the dwarfs. And is where the battle for the kingdom and the blue stone (forgot what it was called) will take place. This is in the times of dragons. The dragon Smaug toke and now lives in the kingdom of Erebor in the lonely mountain where the dwarfs use to live until Smaug forced them out. Twelve homeless dwarfs lead by their former king Thorin and the wizard Gandalf the gray visit the young Hobbit Bilbo Baggins and decide to vanquish Smaug and recover Erebor and their treasure. Bilbo joins the company in an unexpected journey through dangerous lands of the Middle-Earth where they have to fight against Trolls, Orcs and other magic creatures. Bilbo also meets the Gollum and finds his lost magic ring. On their journey to the castle they lose grand. Once they reach the castle and all seems lost in the fight against Smaug Bilbo puts the lost ring on his finger and vanishes into thin air or so it seems but really the ring just made Bilbo invisible. An army of darkness heads to a kingdom.
The protagonists in this book are the Pevensie children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. Even though they have just stumbled into the realm of Narnia, they are quick to protect it from the hands of the White Witch. Peter is fair and just. Even though he is a little bit of a control freak, he always does the right thing. Susan is beautiful and gentle. There is more to her than meets the eye. Edmund is stubborn and does not like to be told what to do. Even though he betrays his siblings and follows the White Witch. he does what is right in the end. Lucy is very kind and faithful. She believes in Narnia even when no one else does. She always does what is right.

Both Edmunds own initiative and, less directly, religion lead Edmund back to before he was spoiled by the school he went to and the enchantment of the witch’s candy. Lewis therefore is following the Romantic tradition of innocence as a part of childhood since it was not Edmund’s fault he performed the incorrect behavior and was drawn to the side of evil.

Peter Jackson directed three films that is a part of The Hobbit trilogy. The films are called An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again. It is an adaption of the 1937 novel by J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Jackson has also directed the prequel of The Hobbit films called the The Lord of the Rings (film series).
The Chronicles of Narnia are veritably the most popular writings of C.S. Lewis. They are known as children’s fantasy literature, and have found favor in older students and adults alike, even many Christian theologians enjoy these stories from Lewis; for there are many spiritual truths that one can gleam from them, if familiar with the Bible. However, having said this, it is noteworthy to say that Lewis did not scribe these Chronicles for allegorical didactics of the Christian faith, but wrote them in such a well-knit fashion that young readers might understand Christian doctrine through captivating fantasy and thus gain an appreciation for it. With this in mind, and in the interest of this assignment, the purpose of this paper is an attempt to analyze one of the many doctrines of the Christian faith from The Lion, The Witch, And, The Wardrobe (LWW), namely, temptation and how Lewis illustrates it through an individual character, Edmund.
