Interest Inventory Results: During the interest inventory, I found out so much about Dakota. He has one brother who is 4 years’ old who he loves to play with. His brother also attends Parker Bennet Curry Elementary school in the preschool classroom. Dakota informed me that has a grey cat and a brown dog that he also enjoys to play with. He doesn’t like to play a lot of games, but ninja turtle is his favorite to play. He also said that the blue ninja turtle was his favorite and that was the one he always picks. His biggest fear is his dreams. Dakota has a lot of nightmares that wake him and scare him. This book was previously used during the first running record. When this book was first read, the student only scored a 68% on fluency which was at frustration level. Instruction was changed from running record, which was a cold read, to a hot read for the fluency assessment. The teacher first read the book to the student. Then, the student and the teacher read the book together. Once the student was comfortable with the book, he was given the assessment. During the one minuet, the student read a total of 32 words. Out of the 32 words read, the student answered 27 correct and only missed five. This was a huge improvement from the last time this text was read. With that data given from the fluency assessment the student scored 84% accuracy compared to 68% accuracy from the beginning of the semester. The words missed during the assessment were common words that the student has frequently missed throughout the semester during running records, assessments, and lessons. The words “on” and “in” were the only words missed during the assessment. These two words have been reversed for an extended period of time, therefore the student will need additional, changed instruction with sight words to become a more fluent …show more content…
The task involves students reading a word in a book and choosing which of the three answers that best match the word in the box. It is a measure of reading vocabulary in that there is no need to comprehend text in order to complete the task and there is no context to provide clues to the meaning of the word. The vocabulary screening section went well for the student based on his score and performance on the assessment. He scored 19 correct and 11 incorrect, but responded to every question. The score the student received was at the strategic level. The screener given was for a first grade student, but the student is in kindergarten. This score indicates that the student is on track in vocabulary for first grade. The student could use additional practice and an introduction to new vocabulary words to grow his knowledge of words. CORE Reading Maze Comprehension: The reading comprehension maze assesses how well students understand text they read silently. The assessment is based completely on the text. After the first sentence, every seventh word in the passage is replaced with the correct word and two distractor words. Students choose which word among the three is the correct word that fits best in the sentence and with the rest of the

Jennings Michael Burch wouldn’t have been able to survive living in and out of New York orphanages without the support of his family and friends. His autobiographical novel, They Cage the Animals at Night, recounts his painful memories of when he lived in many different orphanages from the time he was eight till his early teens. All Jennings wanted in life was to belong to someone. He had a very unstable life when he was young, he never knew how long he would be at home before he would have to be lent out to a new family or go to an orphanage because his mother was too sick to care for him and his brothers. Hunter was assessed using a running records assessment. This type of assessment is done with the student reading a book out loud to the instructor while the instructor follows along on a sheet to mark off any mistakes made. Hunter read confidently for the most part, only stumbling over a few words. He substituted the word “individual” for “instinctual” and, at first, said “have” instead of “live”, but this error he quickly corrected and was able to continue with the reading without a problem. The results of the running record assessment done on Hunter show that he is a very proficient reader. He only made a total of two mistakes and, of these two, one was self-corrected. In these dark hours, perhaps the worst in the history of the farm, I find that I only see unhappiness amongst each other. The cause of this unhappiness you ask, is the pig who you trusted, Napoleon. If he stays in power than the farm won’t be the only thing we will lose. Just take it from Boxer, He is a trustworthy horse Who never did any of us wrong. And Where is he now?, Oh right Napoleon had him killed just to pay for his whiskey. Now I don’t know about you but I think having ruler who would choose whiskey over an animal isn’t fit to rule.
Benjamin Percy uses the title “Me vs Animals” for a specific purpose and chose each word carefully. With only three words, the title conveys competition and comparison, gives the reader a connection to the essay, and instills a fear of the unknown. A title can make or break an entire piece of work. I think Percy contemplated over this title and chose three words that would accurately sum up his whole essay, with success. I would like to learn from this how to create a title that does just that.
Culture is expressed through a variety of different ways, from clothing styles to lifestyles to faithful traditions. It can also have a deep impact on the viewpoints of those around you, whether negatively or positively. No matter how a person goes about their everyday life, they can rise above the expectations of their culture to change the world around them. Culture does not have to be the basis of every thought, word, or deed of a person.
Dr. Seuss 's Go, Dog. Go, was a book I remember reading a lot (probably because I loved dogs so much). When I was younger I used to go to my aunt 's house during the summer, and my grandmother would always be there. She enjoyed reading, so she made me read a book a week, whether it was from the library or from the books on the shelves at my aunt 's house. I did not enjoy going over there to read, especially since it was summer, but I did get rewarded after finishing a book with a game of Guess Who? with my grandmother.
As students read, the teacher makes notes focusing on the words they struggle with. The teacher indicates which words the student has substituted, repeated, mispronounced, or doesn’t know. These words are called miscues. After the miscues are marked they are classified. “Only the words that students mispronounce or substitute can be analyzed; repetitions and omissions aren’t calculated’ (Tompkins p.85). Once the miscues have been evaluated, the miscue analysis will indicate which cues the reader over relies on and which they need to further develop. Running Records also helps calculate the percentage of miscues to determine whether or not the book is at the students reading level. The goal is to give students appropriate books for their reading levels. After the running record and miscue analysis, the teacher can analyze this information to introduce personalized strategies and lessons to develop a more fluent

In today’s century, most people find the pursuit of happiness through money and a successful career making those as the most important thing in their life. In the book of Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild, the protagonist in the story, Christopher Johnson McCandless, a smart young man who graduated from Emory University, who hated materialism in life and could not find happiness in the society where he exist. Believing that nature will provide him the truth, he pursues a journey to the wild in search of solitude in life. The Words Their Way inventory assessment provides a series of spelling lists at different levels. It begins with a primary spelling inventory assessment followed by an elementary spelling list and ends with an upper-level spelling inventory. I commenced the test with the primary spelling list since the list is designed to recognize the difficulties with letter naming and word patterns. After correcting this part of the assessment, I noticed that sixty percent of my students obtained a score of 84% or more and the the rest scored at various levels of the primary list. The students that scored less than proficient on the primary list are struggling with word patterns and primary inflectional endings.
This is the process in which a student will take a vocabulary test at the beginning of the school year which will be graded. On this grading scale, students receive a reading range in which they are aloud to read books according to their difficulty level.
For starters, I would like to have more information on the student prior to assessing. I would like to know about the student classroom experience with reading. As a future Special Education Teacher, I have a passion for helping students who face more challenges. This student did not demonstrate that he faced reading challenges. In hindsight, I would like to have worked with a student with reading challenges in order to start developing a plan to close the achievement gap. Throughout the novel what stands out the most for me in “We The Animals” is that the narrator is gay and his family can’t face the face the fact that the good kid at of all turned that way. When the family read the narrator diary they saw a different perspective on the narrator. In my opinion, that 's an invasion of privacy and should of asked permission. The narrator wrote “ I had written fantasises about the men I met at the bus station, about what I wanted me”. How the narrator felt was his fears dimmed to black and his vision blurred. If somebody ever read my journal without my okay i will be furious and embarrassed because the person read my journal. The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair is a 1906 novel written to show the harsh conditions and the unfair treatment of immigrants in Chicago and other industrialized cities. The book starts off at a traditional Lithuanian wedding, called a Veselija, in a hall near the stockyards of Chicago called Packingtown. Sinclair opens with the wedding of, Lukoszaite and Jurgis Ruckus, to show the reader how the immigrants are mistreated even at ritual event. Some guest at the wedding eat and drink without ever paying for it and the saloon keepers cheat the families on beer and liquor, by charging them more than what they actually had consumed.
