World War II was a war of atomic bombs, sudden deaths, and most importantly a war of words. Both Allies and axis countries depended on mass communication and media to convey the different messages, words of hate, hope, and patriotic service they needed to say to manipulate the minds of their people. The Book thief uses the power of communication to heal, protect and help fight the injustice that existed in the time of the book. Throughout the narrative, the author conveys the best and worst manners that language can be used. With examples of family, love and friendship, expresses the hope that through the healing power of words, the corruption and hate in the world can come to an end.

Through that trust and attention, Liesel begins to acknowledge and love Hans, make her feel as if ‘’she was the only one there, and she was not gigantic.”(67) She was not downgraded by the harsh words of bully’s, but on the other hand grows confident enough to move to the next grade. The love that Liesel has for Hans later saves her in her nightmares, as Hans defends her without saying a word.
In conclusion, I believe Makus Zusak shows the significant use of words, and the power words bring to the people who desire and seek them. Both major characters, Liesel and Max, share incommon there knowledge of Words , bith becoming authors and warming hearts through their own literary analysis. Through the cold war, both managed to pull themselves together and brighting there situation all with a book.
