Everybody has their own definition of living the “American Dream” and although they have their own definition, they all end up saying the same things. A big house, a family, enough money to feed their family and do other things around town, a job, success, peace, love, and happiness are all things that qualifies one for living the American dream. Some people however, do not believe in the American dream because it is hard to achieve even if you are taking all the right steps to achieve it. In these two articles “What is the American Dream in 2016”, and “The American Dream is Alive – These People Prove It”, you will be able to identify both attitudes towards the American dream. In the article, “What is the American Dream in 2016”, by Sean Bryant, he writes about how the American dream barely exists. “The American Dream is still alive as we head into 2016. But it has changed “Americans are now spending much more of their income on healthcare costs — working for nearly a quarter of a year just to pay those expenses”. Majority of Americans carried health insurance which helped to offset the bills that many Americans faced, but it did not eliminate it completely. Bryant included some factual evidence from a world-wide popular magazine “Forbes”. Forbes took a look at the changes in healthcare costs. In 1958 health costs were $134 which on average is about 118 hours of work. In 2012, Health expenses were $8,953.00. It would take 467 hours to cover health care expenses. That’s a lot for someone trying to achieve the American dream don’t you think? In Bryant’s article, he describes all of the issues that prohibits American citizens from reaching the American dream and says that it is nearly impossible. However, Jim Motavalli writes in his article “The American Dream Is Alive – These People Prove It”, that the American dream is not dead and that you can still get to that point in your
