At the core of every great teacher there is a strategy for teaching, a plan to be followed. For those lucky few that naturally have the ability, and personality to promote learning, the plan to be followed comes almost instinctively; for other there are lesson plans. Now, the ideal lesson plan will provide step by step instructions for any teacher, no matter their experience or personality, to effectively teach a subject. Yet, much like theories in science, when put to the test, some will inevitably fail. Still, every plan has some type of yield, for this lesson plan it feel between a good and bad rating of 82%. Meaning, it was not the best, nor was it ultimately average at or around 70%, so hopefully with a few minor tweaks this lesson plan could in fact be one of the better plans for those teachers who need a guideline to teacher to follow.
Scott Hunter’s lesson plan for American History, for the Era of Reconstruction was quite good. The information from the Library of Congress website was very helpful for teachers to understand how they are to present the information to students, while at the same time providing ways for the students to engage in learning on their own. The grade levels selected for this lesson plan were 9-12, however, with American History being part of the 10th classes it would most normally be used for 10th grade. I felt as though what the lesson plan was asking for was very well suitable for the grade level. Even the words to explain the work are all well within the vocabulary of a high school sophomore, plus every assignment had links or other sources for more information. The only reason I felt as though this does not score a 5 out of 5, is simply because it has a lot to do with race. I feel as thoug...

...he changes I saw that were needed were: commendations for ESE students and better understanding of student’s not able to have the proper time to use laptops or computers. A few simple ways to meet requirements for a diverse population of ESE and ELL students could be: having the information in different languages, and for ELL students having oral instructions would be best (Sasson). For this lesson plan I feel as though it needs more hands on teaching, and perhaps a bit less group work. Still, the group work, if done correctly, will prompt better classroom immersion into the topic. This lesson plan would be very good for any starting out teacher who fears their own style of teaching or who wishes to follow a proven style. With this in mind, this is why I give this a low B as a grade, as I will always believe teaching via a teacher is the best way to learn something.
