Quid Sit: What is the Trinity of Persons? “The Mosaic Revelation, as compared with the cosmic revelation, represents a great advance in the knowledge of the true God; but it represents, nevertheless, nothing more than a stage” (Danielou, 121). This revelation reveals to us the term Trinity of Persons. The trinity of Persons is the mystery of God. The trinity is composed of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three elements of the trinity are also seen as one. The oneness in three opens the door for the mystery in Christianity. In the Catholic Church and other religions, we hear the elements of the Trinity for the first time during a baptism. “The first words that a child hears the church speak over him are: “I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (Danielou, 122). By hearing the elements of the trinity spoken to you as a child, it shows that your Christian life starts at your baptism. Also by hearing the elements of the trinity, humankind is open to the mystery of God. Also, by being baptized with the words of the Trinity, a person is immediately exposed to the oneness in three elements. “He is thrown as a creature of flesh and blood into the abyss of Trinitarian life, to which all life and all eternity will have no other object than to accustom him” (Danielou, 122). We are thrown into the mystery of God after we are baptized because we have to develop our own relationship with God. Throughout our lives, people are constantly trying to understand the concept of the Trinity and how all the elements are combined. Even though through the episcopal religion we do not study the Trinity exactly, we are still exposed to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Sprit. I can see that it is very hard for someone to grasp the idea that all of these elements of the Trinity are really one within God. To me, it is very easy to understand all three elements separately, but when we start to say that they are one in three, my mind has a hard time grasping that idea. I also think that Danielou does a great job throughout the rest of the chapter explaining the Trinity to his readers and helping them understand the concept of one in three. Overall, the Trinity is a hard concept to grab, but when you have authors like Danielou, it makes it a little bit easier for us to understand these
