Love In The Story: The Realm Of Possibilities

Love is a very complicated feeling. When someone is in love they tend to do things they wouldn’t normally do, they usually block out the rest of the world and only focus their attention on the person whom they have feelings for. In the poem “On the inside” from the book The Realm of Possibilities the author Megan, explains the love triangle she is currently in which gives the idea that falling in love is inconvenient when the person you are in love with is oblivious towards your feelings. The author portrays feelings of sadness which implies that the author’s point of view toward love is negative. This is further elaborated when Megan describes all she does for her best friend, when her best friend doesn’t realize she’s the one who Megan is
Diana is in love with Elizabeth which causes Megan’s feelings toward Diana to go unnoticed. In the poem, Megan tends to run errands and help Diana out with her gigs, we see this when Megan writes, “I carry your equipment…I am your ride…your calendar.” Although Megan thinks that by doing all these errands for Diana is a way of expressing her love toward her, Diana on the other hand views it as Megan being a good best friend. The context of the poem shows how Megan is sort of complaining about all the things she does for Diana. She named some of the things she does for back to back implying that she is kind of fed up with everything she does for Diana. Diana is oblivious to the feelings behind Megan’s actions which causes Megan to be sad because she goes unnoticed by the only person whose attention she wants. Dr. Hemant, a psychiatrist has an article on Linked-In where he states, “As a psychiatrist I find that one of the commonest reasons for patients to have depression and anxiety is being ignored by someone important in their life.” This further explains how Megan’s ignored love might give her feelings of sadness. With the sadness she now feels from being ignored by Diana, this may lower her self-esteem giving her no hope to express her real feelings toward Diana. This then would explain why Megan never really expressed her feelings toward Diana, she only ever does favors for her. This situation would give the idea of love a negative connotation because she is in a position where her love is not reciprocated and it gives her feelings of
