The overall impression of the legendary hero, Odysseus, is one of great honor. His strength, resilience, and ambition, raises a level of respect and admiration among everyone he encounters. His trials and tribulations throughout two decades of death and adventures only amplifies his complex mind. In order to choose a single characteristic of Odysseus, one must strip back all of his strengths and flaws alike to reveal the true core of his nature. Odysseus is illuminated by his audacious essence. This supplies a level of originality and bold decision making that most others do not have the privilege of naturally having. When he and his men land on the island Aeolia, Aeolus gives a bag of powerful wind to aid Odysseus back home. Aeolus wants to be a part of, what is already, a legendary story among people everywhere. Not just any man could capture the attention and desire of a god, but Odysseus is known for his unique mind, and the cunning ideas he uses to get himself out of situations. Be that as it may, his audacious backbone can simultaneously be the root of the problematic positions he finds himself in. Staying on Circe 's island may not have resulted in a mass amount of repercussions, but he allowed himself to become distracted by relying too heavily on the audacity that usually brings him out on the other end. Despite the loss of valuable time, Circe 's island is the stepping off point into Hades, a necessity to move forward in his conquest. While in Hades, Odysseus encounters dozens of his old friends who died valiantly on earth. Their interactions and the stories they share with Odysseus magnify the fact that he himself is still alive. Most of his war comrades that were killed in the battle of Troy share with Odysseus their yearning for returning home. It becomes apparent that he really does stand out from his counterparts, welcoming challenges and facing them head on in ways and with tactics some might call absurd. Everything that came along with Odysseus ' idea of the Trojan Horse won them their victory, a true story that continues to lives on. Whether it be in battle, or sailing the ocean for years, the deceased loved ones in Hades highlights that Odysseus is able to withstand what many others were not.
