5. Internationalization analysis
Easy Jet has gone international to an extent. ”Push” factors within its existing market are primarily the saturation of the Europe market and its strong competition. The statistics show that people travelling by air has increased tremendously over a year (Holloway, 2000). Asia and North African appears to be attractive new markets for EasyJet to expand and exert its influence. EasyJet entered the European airline industry despite the stiff competition. The competitive factors and attractiveness of the European market can be examined further by use of Yip’s driver of internationalization. YIP’s framework suggests that the internationalization of organization is influenced by drivers of globalization which are: market, government, cost and competitive consideration.
5.1. Market drivers
EasyJet’s provision of low cost flights and it basis of “the earlier you book the ticket, the less you pay“ gives it opportunity to target its customers. EasyJet also provides a number of aircrafts in various airports thus easily accessibility of their services; this acts as it drivers in the market control and competitive advantage. It also has the advantage of providing other services such as car hiring, internet services and restaurants (Saleem, 2010). The ‘Europe by easy jet’ established a resounding brand positioning that is effective across all the main markets and enhanced visits to easyJet.com. EasyJet targets the consumers through various channels that help them to reduce marketing cost per sales. In 2001, EasyJet launched ‘easy Jet mobile app” which was downloaded by over six million people which accounted for 5% of overall sales. That is why EasyJet centers on the cost management strategy and the differentiation strategy (Hanlon, 2007). Through an analysis of EasyJet Airplane company strategies and performance, it is clear that they are ambitious and strive for the best. They not only survive in an industry that is intensely competitive, as shown through the analysis by Porter's Five Forces, but also succeed in terms of offering their customers the best that they have to offer in terms of value for money. The advantage this airline gains over its oligopolistic competitors stems from flexible ticketing and complete access to all primary routes. However, in keeping airline industry, there is room for improvement and growth as the analysis using Ansoff Matrix reveals.
