Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was born in Atlanta Georgia on January 15, 1929. His parents were Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his siblings were guided by the spiritual teachings from their father and attended public schools in Atlanta during their childhood. King and his nine siblings grew up in a financially secure middle class family. They received a better education than the average child of their race, King noticed this and it influenced him to want to help all blacks. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. faced racial segregation as a child, when he began school his white playmates had to attend a different elementary school than him. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. attended Morehouse College in 1948, graduated from Crozer in 1951, and received his doctorate in theology from Boston University in 1955. King then became a civil rights activists fighting for racial equality to end segregation. King grew up in a family that encouraged him to notice and respond to injustices. Occasionally in life a person is born with the ability to change the world with their leadership, knowledge, and talents, King is one of those people and because of this Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. should be nominated for the “A World of Talents” award. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. encouraged all people to address social problems through citizen service during his years of social leadership. According to the book, A Knock at Midnight: Inspiration from the Great Sermons of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., during King’s sermon, “The Drum Major Instinct” King said, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.
