For my analysis essay, I chose the song Desert Rose written and performed by Sting. Cheb Mami also wrote and performed the Arabic part of the song. The genre of the song is pop and “Desert Rose” was released in 1999 but it was well known around 2000 due to its music video which was used in a Jaguar auto mobile commercial. I chose this song because Sting and Cheb Mami speak of longing and desire which is what every human being feels at some point in their lives. In life people always want something they cannot have, which makes the person or object of one’s desire more intriguing because of the struggle to obtain it. I for one can relate to this song and know people who can feel what the lyrics are expressing through love, lust, and desire whether it is for love or desire for success, etc. This song is a way to relate to some people that it is human nature to want something they cannot have.
The lyrics of this song combined Cheb Mami’s voice in the background, and his mystical tone can make the listener feel what is being conveyed in the song. Whenever I hear this song, I think of what Sting is expressing to which I imagine is a man’s dream of love similar to a man desperate for water in the desert. “Desert Rose” has a lot of imagery in its lyrics. Its lyrics make me literally picture what is what Sting and Cheb Mami are singing about. In the song when Sting sings, “I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand...” (Azlyrics.com). I picture the impossibilities of love and compare to how it is impossible to have rain or gardens in a dry desert. It transports listeners to thinking of their dream soul mate or a lost love.
The song, “Desert Rose” has many references to ancient religious beliefs and old Arab s...

...hat I saw from the lyrics in the montage. To me, “Desert Rose” is meaningful and inspirational because I interpret it as a reminder that we as human beings, it is part of our nature to long for something that we think is unattainable and is motivation to work towards it and the lessons we learn along the way are valuable lessons of life. We mature and learn through our goals, disappointments, successes, failures, rewards, and mistakes. Love for family, significant other, friends, and or each other helps make the world a better place and we are happier with the ones we love. Happiness is hard to come by these days because we are constantly looking for ways to better ourselves or look for a more valuable object to please us. People always want what they cannot have. It is just part of our nature and this song is a beautiful, lyrical way of reminding us of that.
The article “ In Defense of “Trap Queen” as our generation’s Greatest Love Song” by Hanif Abdurraqib, who is a poet, essayist, and cultural critic from Columbus, Ohio, writes about todays modern “love song’s” and their meanings. Hanif believes that todays modern generation love songs are not the same as they once were, because the meaning of love has evolved over time. Love songs have a different kind of passion then the once did, they have evolved the passion of love towards each other to a whole different level of passion. The meaning of a love song has changed its not all about only love towards someone, its changed to the love for the life style they live with the success they 've made to be where they are. This life style involving money, drugs. and sex, which is very blunt about how they describe it, is what “love” is to them and the young crowd
The music of today has many songs in which there is a hidden meaning or stories behind the song. The song " Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell is a song with a hidden meaning given much to talk about , another song which has a similar meaning with previous song is "You Do Not Even Know It " by Rick Ross. The intent of this paper is to compare song to song through its similar meaning. Both of these songs have a very rough meaning. These songs are inspired in hidden personalities , lies , appearances, violation , drugs , sex, etc. In " Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell it talks about rape and sexual assault and all of these because of the use of alcohol and drugs. In "You Do Not Even Know It " by Rick Ross it also talks about how some people appearencess are not what they really are in
If analyzed carefully, the melancholy verses of the song are in sharp contrast to the overpowering chorus. Ignore the addictive chorus "Born in the U.S.A.” and what you really hear is a protest song that tells the depressing story and struggle of Vietnam Veterans returning home to a disillusioned life. Song lyrics have set off a great generation of our leisure time than reading poetic devices, therefore song lyrics are better than poetic devices. Song lyrics have dropped numerous lines that attach to us now a days and make us listen to the line over and over unlike poetic devices. Song Lyrics have so much meaning by word choice and by relations.”Mr. Rager” by Kid Cudi, is about people fed up with society and plan on taking a journey. “Dreams” by Edgar Allen Poe, is about a man who dreams of a greater life. Mr. Rager, the song by Scott Cudi, has a better meaning than Dreaming, the poem by Edgar Allen Poe, by personification, allusion, and symbolism.
With long mournful guitar solos and a constant beat it is hard to forget. The opening lines, “There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold/ And she's buying a stairway to heaven.” makes clear that there is a lady who is rich and is trying to buy her way to Heaven. Then, the interpretations vary due to how we associate certain things in the song to our own life. A few lines later the lyrics “There's a feeling I get when I look to the west/ And my spirit is crying for leaving” and we can see how the focus of the song changes from the lady’s point of view to the speaker’s point of view. Following the song the lyrics “And it's whispered that soon/ if we all call the tune/ Then the piper will lead us to reason.” play into the band's ongoing theme of folk tale by referencing the Pied Piper and how he will give reasons for all things to everyone, but nonetheless the lyrics “here are two paths you can go by, but in the long run/ There's still time to change the road you're on” makes clear that even though this lady and the man may have both been through different things in their life, it is still their choice about what they do with themselves (Azlyrics;
The story begins with a song that immediately establishes a very specific description of Arabia. The lyrics are “Oh I come from a land a faraway place/Where ...
...t of people around you. The images are really helped clarify what the singer really wants to talk about. Without the images in the video some many things could have been interpreted from the song itself. Before I watched the video I just thought the author was talking about war, and specially the wars America was fighting at the time of the song’s release. The music in combination with the instrumentals and video create a piece of art that enlightens the soul.
In essence, this song carries various sociological concepts. It concentrates on the main idea about the social construction of reality and talking about how reality is changing. The song questions the actions and mentally of individuals violating the norms and values of society. The band takes into consideration various factors of why it is happening including the media and religion. As a result they talk about such influences taking control building and developing a sense of self. This is a great song about present day problems and how society changes with them.
The song is interesting because reading the lyrics, listening to the song, and watching the music video all give different meanings about the song. Reading the lyrics suggests that the song is a depressing story about the inner turmoil the writer is feeling and how he is not sure what to do with his life. But after listening to this upbeat and happy song, it seems like it may not be as dreary as it seemed at first. After watching the music video the message can be reinterpreted to be about the internal conflicts of a soldier fighting in a war and he does not know what he is fighting for. The fact that the music completely changes how the lyrics are interpreted is interesting. Nate uses many literary techniques to make this song mysterious and open to interpretation depending on how it is experienced.
She was the first of her kind. An inspiration to young and old. Someone who chased their dream and never gave up. She believed in equality among both sexes. Linda McCartha Monica Sandy-Lewis was her name. She was better known as Calypso Rose. Calypso Rose is the ambassador of Caribbean music.
Throughout the song the tone changes from a disappointed and unsatisfied feeling until it progresses into a hopeful and maturing tone. This transformation of tone follows the story almost perfectly and allows the reader to feel a connection to the transformation of the protagonist. This transformation from “expecting the world” (line 1) to realising that some things must happen for others to come into motion “the sun must set to rise” (line 24) is especially impactful and emotional when paired with the lines “ This could be para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise” that are repeated to show her newly established happiness and maturity. Ultimately, this progression from disappointed
“The fairy tale, which to this day is the first tutor of children because it was once the first tutor of mankind, secretly lives on in the story. The first true storyteller is, and will continue to be, the teller of fairy tales. Whenever good counsel was at a premium, the fairy tale had it, and where the need was greatest, its aid was nearest. This need was created by myth. The fairy tale tells us of the earliest arrangements that mankind made to shake off the nightmare which myth had placed upon its chest.”(Walter Benjamin). For generations fairy tales have brought happiness to hundreds of people. Through childhood to adults, people still enjoy the mysteries of fairytales. In society, fairytales are a great way of connecting
When deciding what songs to pick for this essay, I was thinking about what I have seen and how it becomes a huge issue causing fights and war. While searching through the Internet, I came across the song One Day by Matisyahu when it hit me! Man in The Mirror by Michael Jackson is a perfect match together. Together both of these songs express how they want to change the world because there is war and racism all around us everyday. But many people don’t want to change for the better, so this becomes a big conflict. In these songs they demonstrate how one day things will be better and how they want to change the world.
The lyrics of music play an important part of interpreting the meaning of the song. The roles which women have been allowed by the society to embody have changed drastically. Women may question their roles because of what they see portrayed by popular culture or media. Change in female’s identity can be seen in how women are viewed or how they portray themselves in popular culture specifically through music. In general, music continues to...
“Lonely” is one of those songs you need when you just went though a break up. It 's the sad or negative part of love. He has so many emotions in this song like, regret, sadness, and compassion. I picked this song because I think it shows a great part of love, the part when you realize what you had but not that thing is gone. A lot of people take love for granted and don 't realize what other do for them until those people leave. It shows how selfish love can be at time’s. This is one of the worst things about love is having your heart broken into a million pieces. One of the most painful things I have ever experienced. The song is very popular though because
