An Analysis “Bush’s Speech on Immigration” Immigration into the United States isn’t a new problem, it is an advanced problem in which it is evolved over the last hundred years or so. Although immigration is often considered negative and bad, it also can have some good, through recent studies, it suggest that immigration also has a positive impact on the economy. In the year 2012, it was reported that 18.7 million immigrants were naturalized U.S. citizens, accounting for 46 percent of the foreign-born population (40.8 million) and 6 percent of the total U.S. population (313.9 million) according to ACS estimates. The article “Litterers or Life Savers,” was published by In These Times, which indicates the not everyone is going to come across the article, meaning you actually have to be researching the topic or have an interest in reading about immigration. Different from other publishers In These Times is a non-profit Internet magazine with no ties to corporate individuals, saying it’s an independent magazine. As with the article “Bush’s Speech on Immigration,” it was published by The New York Times, which in itself is a more well-known publisher, it was everywhere for everyone to read, weather it is in the newspaper or internet or even watch it on the news. Bush starts by saying that we need to stop them coming over illegally, and them risking their lives in the process, by doing so keep the bad people from coming over, but also helping the ones that are doing it for a good reason and put them into a program to help them get there citizenship. It’s a problem and he wants to find a way to stop it, or even reduce it. Bush states that “Our objective is straightforward: The border should be open to trade and lawful immigration, and shut to illegal immigrants, as well as criminals, drug dealers and terrorists.” One of the main solutions that Bush addresses is to increase Border Patrol from 9,000 to 12,000 agents, and increase funding by 66 percent. Also saying that no we don’t have complete control of the border, but is determined to change that. At the same time, Bush wants to launch technologically advanced border security initiative in American history. Unfortunately, it will take time for all these new plans to come into place but Bush has a solution for that too, by adding up to 6,000 Guard members, and adding in new equipment. “The United States is not going to militarize the southern border.
