The two words Anabolic steroids are one of the most loved but also hated subject in the bodybuilding industry. Steroids obviously have more cons than pros when it comes to this drug enhancement but how many of the dedicated “Gym Bros” are willing to start injecting or taking pills to increase their size and strength? The numbers are substantial, in my small populated hometown alone the 25-35 dedicated males that worked out in the gym about 8-12 of them were using some sort of performance-enhancing drug. Being able to witness what they looked like before they started the drug into them being halfway through the cycle and then the crash and burn once they come off the cycle. The change in the body is quite intriguing. The definition of Anabolic When I was home on the weekend I decided to ask my friends why they hoped on steroids and I received various answers. But before I bring up the discussion that I had with them there should be some insight about natural bodybuilding before understanding the answers of steroid users. So, for a natural bodybuilder a male can put on about 12-15 pounds of muscle in the first year of working out. Then going through weightlifting in a person’s second, third, and fourth year the muscle weight starts decreasing because your body gets used to the weight being lifted. Also, becoming stronger in the gym wanting your Bench, squats, and deadlifts to increase takes a long time for the natural lifter. So, overall Natural bodybuilding is a long and hard process that takes a good amount of time. The discussion that I had with my friends that are on steroids they talked about how much they love being on it. The first month of injecting steroids they all put on around 10-15 pounds of muscle in the first month alone. Their strength increased by 20 percent in their first month of starting their cycle. They also said how alive they feel and that they are never tired throughout the day. My one friend said and I quote “I feel like superman when I am on it, my muscles are always pumped, my strength has gone through the roof, and I am always ready to take on the day without feeling sleepy.” This is the reason so many average males decide to take steroids rather than do it naturally, it’s very rewarding with the whole quick increase in muscle and strength but they never think about what happens once they come off
Aaron Henry was 13 when he started taking steroids. He wanted to gain an edge in football. After four years of using steroids, Henry was 5'9" and weighed 210 pounds. He gained weight and power from taking steroids, but that is not all they gave him. He experienced spells of vomiting, urinating blood, liver and kidney damage, ulceration over three-fourths of his stomach, a mild heart attack, and an aggressive personality (James 18). Henry was only aware of steroids' positive effects. He was unaware about their side effects and health risks. Much of the public, just like Henry, is uninformed or wrongly informed about steroids. The media fails to show the negative aspects of using steroids. Because of this, many people think that steroids only have positive effects, but they fail to realize those using steroids can destroy their body and mind.
Steroids are used daily in America in body building, medicine, and food production. There are three main types of steroids, Corticosteroids, Anabolic steroids, and hormone steroids. Corticosteroids are the kind of steroids doctors prescribe to patients when they are sick or have some kind of medical issue. These steroids reduce overactive immune responses and reduce swelling. Anabolic steroids are used for building muscle. They also contain a lot of testosterone. Testosterone is naturally produced by one's body but too much can cause a vast variety of problems. Hormone steroids are the steroids people put in animals (DeNoon).
In many males that take steroids have had an assumption that their penis has shrunk in size, but in actuality it isn’t the penis that shrinks, its the testicles, this is due to a dramatic decrease in sperm count which can obviously lead to a man being infertile. With all the many cons related to the drug, there are certain ways that can help people get stronger. There are supplements that you can purchase online at fitness websites that are a form of anabolic steroids, the only way they are legal is the amount of dosage that is in each pill. Also, many doctors and pediatricians use steroids for babies that may be undersized at birth to get them back to where they need to be with size, weight, etc. They frown upon the use of this drug cause they say it gives people an edge in sports but if they were in those people 's shoes they would understand that for how much coaches expect them to be all star athletes and put in the time day in and day out that taking those steroids makes it easier. It 's not the same as it was back in the 80s back in the day they took extreme amounts that made them look like greek
There are many types of steroids abused by athletes in order to increase their muscle mass and strength. Though steroids have a negative reputation, there are some that can be beneficial to athletes and certain patients. There are types of steroids called corticosteroids that have more medical uses to them and another type called anabolic-androgenic steroids that have a more limited medical use. The anabolic-androgenic are usually the steroids that are being abused by athletes (Bigelow, par.10). The use of steroids goes back to the end of World War II around the 1940’s. Doctors were giving the freed prisoners from the Nazi concentration camps that were at risk of death anabolic-androgenic steroids to help gain back their muscle mass and weight faster. From this knowledge, steroids began to be used by body builders and athletes to get more fit than they already were. It is believed that the abuse of the steroids started in the late 1940’s by weight lifters and bodybuilders, and by the 1950’s, it was spread to the Olympics (Bigelow, par.11). Any type of steroid should not be used if they are only going to be abused by being used in large doses with the intentions of increasing lean muscle mass and strength (Bigelow, par.11). After years of abuse of anabolic-androgenic steroids in the Olympics they were added to the list of banned substances and random testing of athletes were announced to start taking place (Bigelow, par.35).
One of the biggest misconceptions about steroids is that it is a magic pill. A magic pill that will transform a 130 pound weakling into the hulk in a month. Steroids alone do not make muscles grow. They only aid in muscle growth. Steroids basically speed up muscle repair and slow down the body's natural tendency to break down muscle. Popular media has insinuated to the public about horror stories and the dangers. If they are so dangerous then why do doctors prescribe them? Why do pharmacies all over the planet still make them and sell them?
Do you know how many steroids are on earth today? Well there are numerous types of steroids. There are Anabolic steroids, Anadrol steroids, Halotestin steroids, but the two steroids present in your body are Corticosteroids and Anabolic steroids, which was said once before. There are many pros and cons that come upon when taking steroids such as high blood pressure, and different medical help as the cons. The pros are taking it for sports and weight training which gives you the advantage on other people. Basically steroids are good at enhancing you athletic capabilities but with every advantage there’s a disadvantage.
Anabolic steroids are a group of muscle building chemicals, which are synthetic versions of the male hormone, testosterone. Developed in the 1930’s, they were prescribed to aid in muscle tissue repair by those who had undergone surgery or had degenerative diseases. Now the patients do not only use them but also athletes. Starting in the 1940’s steroids were introduced into sports. Steroids were one of the main reasons that Russia’s 1952 Olympic weightlifting team came out with pile of medals. With these results other nations thought their competitors should have the same advantage, and the use of steroids spread like wildfire.(NIDA pg 2) But now steroids are illegal to use if not prescribed by a physician, and have been banned by nearly all-athletic organizations, both professional and amateur.
Anabolic steroids were first developed in 1930 when scientists attempted and successfully created a synthetic form of testosterone. This synthetic product was created for the intent that it will aide men who were unable to generate a sufficient amount of testosterone for a safe and balanced growth (Anabolic Steroids, 2013). Steroids simply function by converting proteins into muscle at an accelerated speed, which is the major influence for users. Over the past few years, there has been a dramatic increase in the amount of teenagers experimenting with steroids with little or no awareness of the side effects. According to “teenagers at risk for use of performance enhancers” journal article, 76% of the teens who responded to the survey could not identify any negative side effects of steroids (Schneider.M, 2004). Another study in the Sydney Morning Herald’s “Steroid Use Soars among young men” article, the 2013 needle syringe program survey, by the Kirby Institute at the University of NSW, found 74 per cent of people in NSW who started injecting illicit substances in the past three years had sought out performance- and image-enhancing drugs, compared with only 27 per cent in 2003. This increase of steroid use may ...
There are many different types of steroids being produced and used everyday in America. Steroids are any synthetic hormones that your body produces naturally such as birth control used by millions around the world and cortisone which reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling . Anabolic steroids are the ones that I will be talking about they are made for the male sex hormone called testosterone which tells the body to increase muscle size and strength, it also allows for faster muscle recovery. Anabolic steroids will not automatically make you the next Mr. or Mrs. Universe. Those who use Anabolic steroids usually train there muscle much longer and harder then those who don't. The Anabolic steroids only give them the ability to push there muscles far beyond what they would regularly be able to and recover much faster. This is not without saying that there are no side effects to such an amazing drug. In men steroids can cause shrinkage of the testicles, decrease in sperm count (that can lead to being sterile), impotence, prostate enlargement, Gynecomastia (appearance of female breast on male), and acne which are all reversible when ...
We all have seen a bodybuilders physic, whether it was in a magazine, the media, or in the gym. As we despise their freakish look we still wish that we had a body like them. But the reason we don’t look like that is because we know that the long term effects of steroids in will damage our bodies. Steroids have been a common use throughout human history since 1889. The fact that it’s illegal doesn’t seem to bother many users. Generations today are more reliant on this drug for various reasons, without realizing the consequences and long term effects that can result. Steroids are a way of cheating to reach your goals. Steroids are addictive, and over a short period of time they destroy the liver as well as the kidneys, affect personalities, and cause hormonal imbalances. Steroids present a higher risk than the person may understand due to their wide spread availability, and pressures to look perfect.
Anabolic steroids are drugs containing, or hormone-like substances, that are used to increase strength and promote muscle growth. They were first developed in the 1930s in Europe to treat undernourished patients and to promote healing after surgery. Competitive weightlifters began using steroids in the 1950s as a way to increase their athletic performance. Use gradually spread throughout the world among athletes in other has been estimated that at least one in 15 male high school seniors in the United States--more than a half-million boys--has used steroids. Some are athletes attempting to increase their strength and size; others are simply youths attempting to speed up their growth to keep pace with their peers. In some countries, anabolic steroids are available over the counter. In the United States, a doctor's prescription is necessary.
Anabolic steroids are commonly stereotyped. Many are convinced it is cheating or very dangerous. Like they say don’t judge a book by its cover, do your own research on it and take your own word for it. Don’t always just go by what people bring it up to be, without your own knowledge. Anabolic steroids are in fact dangerous if not prescribed by a doctor, and illegal. So steroid use isn’t for everybody, unless it is ok’d by a doctor. For those looking just to gain size from steroid use, they got to just learn how to diet. With a clean diet, high protein intake, and a effective workout plan you can increase size and strength drastically. Anabolic steroids are good and bad, they have many positive and negative causes and effects; taken in moderation by a doctor supervision can have great results.
Steroids cannot only effect the way you look it can affect your well being and health. So you probably wonder how it can affect your heath. Imagine you were taking a medicine that is beneficial to you physically that’s was prescribed by a doctor but, you were over using it. So you probably know that overusing medication can be dangerous and you would be putting your life in danger. That’s what is happening to steroid users who use steroids to improve their athletic performance, which are illegal in the United States to use for unnecessary reasons. So statistics show that most steroid users in the black market overuse steroids which we all know can be life threating if you overuse any medication. So some of the side effects are extreme acne on the face, back, and chest; liver damage cancer; and heart disease. Steroids can also cause deep depression and suicidal thoughts.
Steroids are more than just muscle enhancers. It goes into more depth than that. Athletes use them to get the advantage on their opponent but that’s all one really knows. What really happens with the users body besides going weak to strong? It’s the science that goes in to it that gives the user its physical results. Steroids have many effects on the body both good and bad, whether it’s becoming bigger or becoming less of a man or woman, literally. When someone makes the choice to use steroids, they are getting into more than they can imagine. Steroids change your body completely and can be more bad than good. Steroids have more effects than one may think and are definitely overlooked when it comes to being a medicine and a science rather than a performance enhancer.
The drug mimics the effects of testosterone in the body, causing muscle cells to produce protein at a faster rate, which leads to bigger muscles (Larsen 1). Athletes use the drug as a quick, easy way to become stronger and faster than the competition. It isn’t difficult to understand why teens are exposing themselves to this drug. Steroids were never mentioned in the D.A.R.E. program and most were never taught the effects of these drugs. I think this a mistake for the drug programs to ignore steroids because of how tempting they are. If you were offered a pill to easily be better than all your competition would you take it? If you knew no consequences the answer would almost always be yes. If educated, your answer may be different.
