2pursued his passion in architecture at the National School of Fine Arts where he graduated with a BA in architecture at age of twenty-seven. After he graduated he worked for his father in his typography house. He then worked for
2the architecture studio of Lucio Casta, Gregori Warchavchik, and Carlos Leao even though they did not pay him for his work. He worked there as a draftsman, he was later well known for his skill at this. Lucio Casta was the one who brought Niemeyer into the professional market. Peter’s international traveling experiences are what I believe to have carried him through his career. Though he attended two great Universities, he got his best education from the real world experiences he obtained through travel. Peter grew up as a small town boy who had a passion for outdoors. By traveling, he was able to find his true style and colors; those aspects are what guided him through his 40 year career as an impactful and memorable architect. At age 67, he tragically passed away from a heart attack while cross country skiing in January of 2009. Though he left the earth that day, he left doing something he loved. And what he left behind was far more vast than any of his monumental creations.
Abstract geometric shapes are easily seen in “Always.” The subject of geometry is apparent from any angle. This sculpture has a unitary form of a long and large rectangular shape that bends several times in different directions and angles before springing into space. Mass controls the composition of this sculpture; it is a large sculpture with lots of volume. The mass creates a line of movement into space. There is a dynamic action of the geometric shapes extending into space. The sculpture appears unstable and off-balanced as if it is going to tip over.

Frederick Law Olmsted was the main architect of the Biltmore Estate. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1822. He is also the designer of Stanford University, grounds of the U.S. capitol, Central Park, and Niagara Falls State Reserve. Olmsted did not attend college. Modernism is defined in Merriam-Webster's Dictionary as "a self-conscious break with the past and a search for new forms of expression." While this explanation does relate what modernism means, the intricacies of the term go much deeper. Modernism began around 1890 and waned around 1922. Virginia Wolf once wrote, "In or about December, 1910, human character changed." (Hurt and Wilkie 1443). D.H. Lawrence wrote a similar statement about 1915: "It was 1915 the old world ended." (Hurt and Wilkie 1444). The importance of the exact dates of the Modernist period are not so relevant as the fact that new ideas were implemented in the era. Ideas that had never before been approached in the world of literature suddenly began emerging in the works of many great authors. Two of the pioneer Modernist writers were Joseph Conrad and T.S. Eliot. The tendencies to question the incontestable beliefs embedded in all thinking and to focus on the inner self dominated. Old viewpoints were tossed aside to make way for the discovery of modern man's personal spirituality. Two works that are considered important forbears in the Modern period are T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland and Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
Frank Lloyd Wright, American architect, who was a pioneer in the modern style, is considered one of the greatest figures in 20th-century architecture. Wright was born June 8, 1867, in Richland Center, Wisconsin. When he entered the University of Wisconsin in 1884 his interest in architecture had already acknowledged itself. The university offered no courses in his chosen field; however, he enrolled in civil engineering and gained some practical experience by working part time on a construction project at the university. In 1887 he left school and went to Chicago where he became a designer for the firm of Adler and Sullivan with a pay of twenty-five dollars a week. Soon Wright became Louis Sullivan’s chief assistant. Louis Sullivan, Chicago based architect, one of America’s advanced designers. Louis had a profound influence on Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright was assigned most of the firm’s home projects, but to pay his many debts he designed ‘Bootlegged Houses’ for private clients in his spare time. Sullivan disapproved, resulting in Wright leaving the firm in 1893 to establish his own office in Chicago.
