Online website allows individuals to contact and communicate with others through the Internet each. It follows the sociological principle of social networking. The quest of love has inspired people to invest in much thoughts and efforts in the process of building a romantic relationship. Thus, online dating becomes a popular tool for building a relationship or starting a relationship nowadays. In addition, in order to accomplish the goal of finding the perfect partner there are many steps involved in this process.
The first dating site on the Internet was developed by an American company in 1995 : Classmates.com is destined to meet and encourage encounters individuals from their promotions or school . In French, it was imitated from 2000 Trombi.com then competed in 2001 by Buddies before. Noted previously existed in France dating sites ( sentimental and erotic ) as Netclub , founded in 19972 , or Amoureux.com , founded in 19983 (the latter being distinguished from its competitors by its key services free , although it also offers some paid features). In 20024 , dating site Meetic appeared , soon followed by its European counterparts . It was so successful that it quickly becomes the leading French dating sites then it performs its IPO in October 2005 , almost four years after the creation of the company. In 2004 , as a result of these precursors , the online social networking develops new friends on the Facebook model , as well as business meetings on the Internet. Thus, the emergence of Web 2.0 and the new features it brings led dating sites to multiply especially from 20015 . Online dating is a popular new tool for initiating romantic relationships, although recent research and media reports suggest that it may also be fertile ground for deception. Unlike previous studies that rely solely on self-reported data, the present study establishes ground truth for 80 online daters' height, weight and age, and compares ground truth data to the information provided in online dating profiles. The results suggest that deception is indeed frequently observed, but that the magnitude of the deceptions is usually small. As expected, deceptions differ by gender. Results are discussed in light of the hyperactive personal model and the self-presentational tensions experienced by online dating participants.
