Justification of Design Choices
For this first task I am required to create a web site for the Lancre
Festival 2007. To produce this website I must include these 4 pages:
· Homepage
· Where To Stay
· Festival Events
· The Purple Spiders
The first page otherwise known as the homepage; should have a big
heading “The Lancre Festival” it should also have the dates underneath
it. One off the requirements is to make sure the heading is colourful
so it stands out. I will do this by making the heading a bright
orange, and formatting it to make the outline stand out. The heading
will be located at the top of the page in the centre, size 36. I also
want my background to be eye-catching, original, and attractive, for
this I’ve used a yellow spiral. Stuart also wants the dates underneath
the heading; I will do this in a thin margin with the dates centred,
black and bold. A short piece on Lancre will be given on disk to me;
this will be included in a big box, which takes up most of the
homepage. On one half I will copy and paste the text given, (which
will be written in the font “Bimini”) and on the other half I will
include a picture of last year’s festival. This is compulsory as it
states that at least one picture must be on each page (except the
festival events page). At the bottom I will have a list of hyperlinks
for each page they will be in a bold black Ariel font.
All the pages will have the home page links and heading in the same
place.
The second page will be the “Where to stay” page, the title will be in
size 32 the font will be “ODESSA let”. The background will be a cream
colour and the text will be written in comic sans. This page will
contain a list of:
· Hotels (and motels)
· Bed and breakfast accommodation
· Camping and caravan sites
Issue Four was titled Argument Beyond Pro and Con. In this issue you they covered different points and views that would help you out with your papers. The four main topics of this issue was spotlighting strategies and arguments, setting the scene for arguable assertions, zooming in on claims and evidence, and focusing on effective organization. One example they use is immigration.” In the debate about immigration for instance, participants are actually arguing about their values and the different visions they have for the country”(Cannon pg. 150). They also talk about whether or not parents should be able to see their child's grades in college and the pros and cons of it. They also give good insight on zooming in on claims and evidences with.
A good design begins with a creation or plan for the making of an object or service. It is a strategic approach towards a person’s (usually a client or target audience) required unique expectations. A design generally defines the specifications and parameters in achieving its main objectives. Often there are no key attributes as to what would make a design successful and interesting. Products and peoples needs and wants or taste often change and revolve around time. This brings a definite change in the market and its emerging’s trends. This cycle of evolution will always exist, but finally it is the factor of emotional response with the customer that will determine whether a product is successful or not. Whether the design is an object or it is a concept, the design that we see is an accumulation of various concepts and decisions that have been brought together from a variety of disciplines. In order for a consumer to view the design as something that is good it takes a unique combination of aesthetics, quality and ergonomics to make a design successful. Often we recognize a bad design at its first glance and a bad design often forces one to take in many confusing and conflicted content. So what makes our design/ product fail?
Design is crucial to any webpage you create. Without effective design, it doesn’t matter how good your logic is or how many different things you can do with it. The user does not care whether or not you put your life into that webpage. If it doesn’t do what they want and make it easy to do, the user will find another that meets their needs or desires. As superficial as it may seem, a user cares most about what’s on the surface of your webpage. Maybe your webpage is faster or does things smarter than somebody else’s, but if their design is better, people are going to prefer theirs over yours. A good design is comprised of many different elements. A key aspect of which is color choice. However, even more important than color when making a successful webpage is the user’s patience.
The definition of universal design was coined in 1985 by Ron Mace, an architect and founder of the Center for Universal Design. Universal design is “the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design” (Steinfeld, 1988). There are seven principles that are followed when creating with universal design in mind: equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive design, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, and size and space for approach and use (Duncan).

The following essay will define what rational organisation design is and how it can be used in business to both cut costs and give increased control to management as well as giving reference to important figures who relate to the systems development. Both the benefits and drawbacks of rational organisation will be explored with both theoretical and real life examples. The conclusion will highlight how rational organisation can be implemented into Junction Hotel and the extent to which it is desirable.

Therefore a web based system is a system that is accessible over the internet by a user in order to achieve a particular task for a given purpose. It helps to link millions of computer networks all over the world and it allows the users to get information stored on other computers from a long distance (James, 1999). Having a website helps promote your company’s services, for consumers to view and research your products easily, and also because internet is universal, people worldwide could purchase your products. Aside from business purposes, a website could also be built for personal use. If you’re into blogging, you can have your own site to express everything you want or feel; a website could also be used to inform people. Due to technology’s fast evolution, creating a website is now a very simple task even for those who have no background in web designing, all you need is a working computer and an internet connection and you’re ready to create your very own site!
In a period of ten short years the Internet has profoundly changed the way modern telecommunications function. Today, it is hard to imagine a world without the Internet. The Internet's roots date back to the 1950s, when researchers realized there was a need to allow general communications between users of various computers and communications networks (History of the Internet, Wikipedia). However, it wasn't until 1986 and the National Science Foundation's (NSF) construction of a university network called NSFNet that the Internet truly began to take off. In the 1990s the Internet, as a shared network, began to gain in popularity. In 1991, Tim Berners-Lee published the very first web site to the internet, eleven years after he first proposed a project based on the concept of hypertext, to facilitate sharing and updating information among researchers (History of the Internet, Wikipedia). The very first web site, http://info.cern.ch, contained information describing what the World Wide Web was, how an individual could set up a web server, and how someone could have a web browser. The web site also had the world's first web directory. At the time of the web site's release, Tim Berners-Lee was a fellow for the European Council for Nuclear Research also known as (CERN).
The most important task of developing and designing a web page is the gathering of information. You first need to brainstorm about what you would like the web page to consist of. Collect everything that you want to become part of the web page, from editorials and graphics to company information and history. It may be a good idea to get your hands on as much data as possible, and then decide what is to be used in the web page. Whatever material that you do not used may be discarded later. All information previously gathered is categorized in a hierarchy form from the most important to the least important.
