In the article “An Emerging Opportunity for Pediatric Psychologists: Our Role in a Multidisciplinary Clinic for Youth with Gender Dysphoria,” a Dutch analysis was conducted on 77 gender dysphoric children, 27 percent reported persistent gender dysphoria into adolescence, 43 percent claimed gender dysphoria did not persist, and 30 percent of participants could not be reached at follow up, comparable studies found similar results (Cousino et al. 401). With the lack of persistent gender dysphoria into adulthood, as well as the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which controls impulses, is not fully developed until the age of 25, physical treatment at a youthful age can cause physical and psychological trauma in youths (Johnson et al. 216). Many people agree that the guidelines are sufficient to meet the individual needs of every case of gender dysphoria, rather than official regulations that may delay accommodating treatment for gender dysphoric children. The overall goal that most people can agree on is a solution that will provide the best physical and psychological health for gender dysphoric children and non-persistent gender dysphoric children. Official regulations will still be able to treat gender dysphoric children, without putting non-persistent gender dysphoric children at risk for being treated for a short-lived diagnosis. Transgendered people have recommended guidelines for hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery, including when to start these treatments, but the guidelines should be laws rather than recommendations, considering the side effects of physical adolescent treatments and brain development associated with gender dysphoria.

...etic and biological links being researched (Johnson et al. 216). A study was conducted on the differences in distribution of gray matter, the location of cell bodies in the brain, in 44 males, 52 females, 55 FtM, and 38 MtF adolescents with results showing differences in the sexually dimorphic regions of the brain. The study’s results determined females had more gray matter in the frontal cortex, whereas males had more gray matter in the hypothalamus and the bilateral cerebellum, transsexuals has similar amounts of gray matter in each area, rather than the difference range seen between males and females without gender Dysphoria (Hoekzema et al. 64). Although there is a notable difference in the structure of the brain in regard to the volume of gray matter of transsexuals compared to non-transsexuals, their brain still needs the same amount of time to fully develop.
