School district financial expenditures such as, purchasing textbooks, hiring support staff, employing teachers, heating and lighting the building, and keeping up-to-date with technology illustrate only a few areas. Therefore, a cycle commences; the less funding accessible, the smaller the workforce, fewer the resources, and the lower the amount of available student services, the least effective teachers are capable of being. When considering the history of the American public education system, numerous sources believe that "lack of funding caused many of the problems in the first place” (Chen 2015). Likewise, when examining oversized classes and the diversity of learning the students possess, educators overwhelmingly regard the greatest method for receiving assistance as having more teachers available to support the learners, an impossibility with growing budgetary constraints (Hurst, 2013). In the last decade, school districts have seen reductions in funding, many simultaneously losing federal and state money. While many states have begun to experience an escalation in capital, 12 states still continue to decrease subsidies provided to schools. Three of which, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Wisconsin have seen the highest levels of reductions since the Great Recession hit, in 2007 (Michael, "Most States Have Cut School Funding, and Some Continue Cutting", 2016, p. 1). When considering reforms calculated to promote the quality of education by improving teacher quality, diminishing class sizes, and expanding the learning time, there are high expectations of enhanced preparation for the students’ future. As arguably one of the most important components, since they are those taught, and, therefore, most affected by the school environment, these factors create, their input remains highly overlooked, and rarely considered. There is a plethora of information discussing how others perceive students feel, yet so few regarding actual input directly from them, that it was essentially impossible to find, However, in order to develop truly effective educators, this voiceless minority group requires acknowledgement and evaluation. Knowledge of assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of the education system, as well as issues students believe they face, could better arm educators with a platform to build their lessons, in a manner that is truly most effective, as it would directly consider and utilize their input to build their lessons.
