Popular American Culture

Culture is defined as the common forms of behaviors, relations, rational concepts and moving understanding, which are learned through a course of socialization. These common forms can identify the members of a culture group while also differentiating individuals of other groups.

Culture is an important part of society. It is a learned pattern of behavior, and influences the ways in which a person lives his or her life. Culture is essential because it binds people together. In the obvious sense of the term “culture” creates the music, food, art and even the texts of a society. However these are only the products of a culture which are followed by a society and cannot be defined as culture itself.

Popular Culture (also known as Pop Culture) is a culture that is based on an up-to-date lifestyle and items that are well known, and are generally accepted cultural patterns that are wide spread within a population. Pop culture has been defined as “Common Culture”, “Folk Culture” and “Mass Culture”. While it has been all of these things at many points in the past, in Post-War America pop culture is undeniably related to commercial culture and all its trappings such as movies, television, radio, internet, advertising of toys, clothes, photography, many forms of art, games, or rave dancing while on ecstasy[1].

Popular American Culture is expressed in almost every standard of communication, in music and movies, and methods like sports. Another feature of American pop culture is the developing and adaptation of various features like cultural icons such as Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, or, Chuck E. Cheese and foods like ham...

Despite the ease and flexibility offered by the cable companies people still would rather rent videos and DVD’s even if that meant they had to drive to the rental store and pay a late fee. However now you do not even need cable or movie rental stores anymore. Now you can get movies and most TV series on your computer or gaming device with Netflix, Hulu ETC. just as long as you have internet service.

So in conclusion pop culture has had an impact on society dating back to the dawn of our creation and has taken many forms from clothing, music, language and movies. And though everyone tries to be their own person I am sure that pop culture will influence society for years to come.
