American Education Crisis:
Introduction
The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said “He who prescribes the diameter of your knowledge dictates the circumference of your activity.” The government gives education away for free through public schooling. A strong nation has a great education system where the children can excel. Nevertheless, America is suffering through an education crisis. The United States has fallen to 17th place in education among other countries because of teaching methods, and the culture surrounding education. Solutions to the education crisis includes: Professional Learning Communities, and finding ways to change the educational culture.
Current News and Statistics of US Education
The United States places 17th in education. Finland and South Korea are first place, while Japan and Singapore are right behind them (“Best Education in the World” paras. 1, 2). The ranks are based on international test scores, graduation rates between 2006 and 2010, and the number of people who want a higher education (“Best Education in the World” para 2). The United States also places 25th in math, 17th in science, and 14th in reading (“Best Education in the World para 10). Fourth Graders in the U.S. are 11th in Math in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (“U.S. education spending tops Global List” para. 9, 10). Sixty-six percent of all fourth graders are not reading at grade level (Reese, Fredrick para. 3). Fourteen percent of the population, or 32 million adults, cannot read. Nineteen percent of high school graduates cannot read. In less developed countries like Chile, Brazil, and Latina, children are increasing in academics three times faster than American Students (“Best Education in the World” para 8...

...e disciplining the students than teaching the students (Education). The poorer schools are usually in the inner city because inner city children are usually poor children. Bill Gates says the United States is not providing equal education for children because the inner city children are dropping out (Gates). For the US to raise its rankings, they must provide equal and quality education to everyone (Gates).
Conclusion
The American education crisis is happening right now. There are solutions to the crisis but only few of them are being implemented. The core of the problem is the lack of interest in school. When a person performs a task that they have no interest in doing they will not put their best effort. If America wants to stay on top in education, they must improve their “diameter” if they want the children to excel in their “circumference” of activities.
