While the Recession swept across all of the United States many people lost their jobs and even their homes, despite of all this, the American dream has yet to die and continues to live on. Throughout the world America is a bit idolized for its way of freedom, not only because there is a hope in all people, especially all immigrants coming to the United States, that they have a chance for a new start. This is supported further by the determination of all Americans to do more than just survive, and the opportunity of America and all the rights it has to offer. Throughout the years, immigrants have come to rely on America to be the land of new beginnings. However, this has not been the only time immigrants have looked towards America. The people traveling from Cuba to America, even to this day have come here trying to seek a new life from their previous lives. However, a much more modern example is one such as Yasmina Shaush, She came to the United States when she was only seven from the Ukraine with her family. They came here seeking refuge from the chaotic state of the government. She wrote an essay on the American Dream her high school senior year and is now a college student. One of the only differences being that instead of a good voice that motivated people from behind, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt lead from the front. Although people may argue that Theodore was born into a wealthy family, he still had to overcome many challenges in his wake. Some of them being his early illness, and his roles in warfare that he saw through that lead to his triumph. Evidently, these were not the main triumph. According to the "The Presidents of the United States of America" biographies his main battle was with himself. "In 1884 his first wife, Alice Lee Roosevelt, and his mother died on the same day. Roosevelt spent much of the next two years on his ranch in the Badlands of Dakota Territory. There he mastered his sorrow as he lived in the saddle, driving cattle, hunting big game--he even captured an outlaw."(Freidel, Sidey) In the point of this, Theodore Roosevelt showed great determination to overcome his troubles and strive on towards his own American Dream. The modern correspondent to these historic giants is Steve Jobs. From beginning to end his life is a show of the true American determination that the dream makes every strive for. He started in nothing less than his garage programming computers. Years went by, he is jumping over each hurdle as it comes, but he does not capitulate.
