American Dream Degenerated

The American dream is the traditional social ideals of the US, such as equality, democracy, and material prosperity. For most Americans, the goal is to be able to have an extensive amount of money and or, material items. In easier terms, the American dream is the pursuit of freedom and the satisfaction of needs and wants. Everyone, no matter what background or family he/she has come from, has the opportunity and with great determination, able to achieve the dream. The term "American Dream" derived from the book published in 1931 titled The Epic of America by James Truslow Adams. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's, The Great Gatsby and in Jordan Belfort's memoir, The Wolf of Wall Street, both young men are striving for the highly acclaimed "American Dream". These books have one similar mind set and it is that, the dream gives us a reason to work hard and achieve a better life, but do not know that ultimately in the end it leads to their demise because of the lust for power and materialism.
