Alternative Method of Schooling
If you go back ten year’s from now there was only one method of schooling. That method was traditional schooling, where children had to sit in a classroom. Since then homeschooling has become a very popular alternative method to traditional schooling. Each year more and more children become interested in homeschooling. Research has shown that around 2 million children from ages 5 to 17 are home schooled to this date (Clemmitt). Children who have already made the switch to homeschooling are learning better than in a traditional class room. In a traditional school children face many distractions such as chatting with friends, and noisy classrooms. These distractions can cause students to lose focus, and also dramatically affect a child’s grades. On the other hand some children learn better with background noise. Homeschooling allows children to have a consistent background noise such as music, if that’s how the child learns best. Parents have recently taken concern on learning in traditional schools. A study shown in “Most Important parental reasons for homeschooling children” shows that 31 percent of parents homeschool their children due to a concern in the school and classroom environment (Doak). Even though traditional schools offer extra classes for children who may fall behind, it is not the same as taking your time. Some children in these programs tend to feel rushed to learn certain topics and are. The Kasman’s in the article “Homeschooling” reflect on a student and said “He does not have to contend with either the competition and peer pressure of a classroom or the stress of trying to learn something before he is ready” (Homeschooling). Homeschooling allows children to go step by step through the lessons, and take as long as they need to conquer the concepts. This may also come in handy for learning disabilities.
