Nowdays people rely on gasoline (petroleum) as a basic form of fuel, but gasoline prices are starting to be a problem. A bigger problema is that people forget about other alternative combustible form of fuels like Biodiesel, Ethanol, and Electricty or most common known as Hybrids. This alternative fuels are better than gasoline because they dont contamínate that much, reduce pollution and the emissions of greenhouse gasses.
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel made of vegetable oils which is use for heavy machinary. ¨Biodiesel is a liquid fuel of ton referred to as b100 or neat biodiesel in its pure, unblended form like petroleum diesel, biodiesel is used to fuel compression-ignition engines, which run on petroleum diesel¨ (, 1 of 2). ¨Biodiesel is a domestically produced, renewable fuel that can be manufactured from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurants grease¨ (, 1 of 2). ¨Biodiesel performs in cold weather depends on the blend of biodiesel. The smaller the percentage of biodiesiel in the blend, the better it performs in cold temperatures¨ (, 1 of 2). Why would people use biodiesel? The biodiesel is better for the enviroment and produce less pollution. ¨Biodiesel is beter for enviroment because its is made from renewable resources and has lower emissions compared to petroleum¨ (, 3 of 3). ¨Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 57% up to 86% compared to petroleum diesel¨ (, 2 of 3). Biodiesel production has been increasing the last decade because people has started to realize biodiesel its better. ¨With less tan a decade of commercial scale production, the industry is growing and have stron focus and sustanbility¨ (, 1 of 3). Biodiesel goes thru a lot of process before its selled. ¨Biodiesel is made through a chemical process called Transferfication where by the glycerin is separated from the fato r vegetable oil¨ (, 3of 3). These are the reasons why biodiesel is better .
How is etanol used? Ethanol the same alcohol used in beverages is used as motor fuel, mainly biofuel. ¨Most of the gasolina sold in the U.S. contains up to 10% etanol – the amount varies by región – and all auto manufacturers approve blends up to E10 in their gasoline vehicles¨ (, 1 of 2). Ethanol is also know as E85 or Flex Fuel. ¨Ethanol is also available as E85, or high level ethanol blends. This fuel can runo n high-level, ethanol blends. Gasolina or any blend of these¨ (www.

Essay about Alternative Fuels

- Alternative Fuels Demand for gasoline has been the driving force in utilization and depletion of crude petroleum, which is a non-renewable resource. In recent years, tendencies have just begun to, at times, favor alternative fuels to power autos. Many possible alternative fuels exist, certainly not without their drawbacks. These alternatives include, but are not limited to, alcohols, gasohols, and both liquefied and gaseous natural gas, as well as hydrogen. As mentioned above, drawbacks do exist; the chief drawbacks being cost of adaption implementation, engineering, and cost of the fuels themselves....   [tags: Papers]

1851 words (5.3 pages), 1 of 2). ¨E85, also called Flex fuel, is an etanol-gasoline blend containing 51% to 83% ethanol – depending on geography and season¨ (, 1 of 2). Ethanol just like biodiesel is an organic fuel, world ethanol production have been triplefied between 2002 and 2009. Ethanol is a enviromental friendly fuel because of its components such as, sugar cane, potato, cassava, and corn. ¨Ethanol is a renewable fuel made from various plant materials collectively know as biomass more tan 95% of the U.S. gasolina contains ethanol in a low level¨ (, 1 of 2). The basic steps for the ethanol production are fermentation of sugars, distillation, and deshydration. The ethanol is most common used for automobiles engines, but it can be used also for tractors, airplanes, and boats. ¨Using ethanol can reduce oil dependence and greenhouse gas emissions. Ethanol fuel use in the U.S. has increased dramatically from about 1.7 billion gallons in 2001 to about 12.9 billion in 2012¨ (, 1 of 2). Ethanol production have started growing a lot the las decade, from 2001 to 2012, and the production is still growing more and more. ¨Ethanol (CH3 CH2 OH) is a dear, colorless liquid. It is also known as ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, and Et OH. Ethanol has the same chemical formula refardless of wether it is produced from stach¨ (, 2 of 2). This is basically what ethanol is.
Nowdays people use vehicles that use electricity as form of energy, this vehicles are called Hybrids or HEV´s. ¨HEV´s typically better fuel economy and have lower fuel costs than similar anvitional vehicles. For example the Honda Civic 2012has an EPA combined city - and – highway fuel economy estímate of 44 miles per gallon¨ (, 1 of 3). Electric vehicles convert the energy in force. ¨Electric vehicles convert about 59-62 % of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels – converted gasolina vehicles only convert 17 – 21 % ¨ (, 1 of 2). This type of vehicles have an engine based on rechargable batteries. ¨All – electric vehicles EV´s run on electricty only. They are propelled by an electric motor powered by recargable battery packs¨. (, 1 of 2). This vehicles last longer and are more efficient. ¨Electric motors provide quiet, smooth operation and stronger acceleration and require less maintance than ICE´s¨ (, 1 of 2). This form of energy fuel does not contamínate ¨Ev´s emit no pollutants, although the power plant producing the electricity may emit them¨ (, 1 of 2). Researchers try to make this energy fuel last longer. ¨Researchers are working on improved battery technologies to increase driving range and decrease recharging time weight, and cost¨ (, 2 of 2). This is basically what alternative combustible fuels are Biodiesel, Ethanol, and Electricity they work better, they are cheaper, and they contamínate less.
Why not to use gasoline? Like other fossil fuels gasoline create greenhouse gas emissions in a big scale, so it contaminates a lot, and create a lot of pollution which is bad for the enviroment. Gasolina also is colorless, ordorless, and tasteless which make it very hard to detect and at the same time make it dangerous to handle. The cost of the gasoline increases dramatically more than one time per year which make it another disadvantage, this are reasons why not to use gasoline.
In conclusion, these are the causes why alternative fuels, biodiesel, ethanol, and electricty are better than gasoline (petroleum)
