In 1951 the book “The Catcher in the Rye” was released, ten years later it had become the most censored book in all schools. In 1981 it had become the most censored book in the United States, however in that time it was also the second most taught book in all high schools. “Wolf, Baldassarro R. Many are unsure on why it has been one of the most debated and censored books and whether it really should be so such a controversial topic.
Since 1961, 10 years after “The Catcher In The Rye” was banned it has been among the top ten most frequently banned books in the United States, from public libraries to high schools it has been part of the top ten most frequently banned books. The book has also made the TIMES magazine most banned books as well as CNN’s list for most controversial books. "Entertainment." Although some think that the banning of books isn’t as common now as it was in the past, that is true, however J.D. Salinger’s book has had disputes over the censorship as recent a 2010 and has been disputed/banned in states as South Carolina, Minnesota, Montana, and Maine from 2001-2010. . “Wolf, Baldassarro R. ...is book it is their right to do so. However it is clear here that The Catcher clearly has a right to be one of the most controversial books in the history of writing, weather it may be just coincidence or this book really is an explicit brain washing book it is up to the reader to decide this.
