Recommended: Governments influences on everday life

As you can see in the title, I will be writing about Indian Reservations and their tribes. Where they were established, why they were established, when they were established, what a reservation is, and who lives in the reservation. First off I’d like to talk about the reservations. A reservation is a land given to indigenous people usually from the government, but doesn’t have full power or the land. Native Americans lived on these reservations, but they weren’t fully in charge of that small reservation. The federal government had most of the power and took away their land. After the settlers came in and started taking over the land, Indians started to fight with the white people. Government soon came and made peace, which kicked the Indians out of their territory. They were established to make peace between settlers who took the land because they wanted to use the land for farming, while the Indians were fighting for their land.     The "reservation" policy is said to be policy that shrunk Indian Territory to the Black Hills of the Dakota Territory and to Oklahoma. All of the Natives customs were threatened. "Indians used buffalo for food, clothing, fuel and even shelter" (Carnes and Garraty 456). As a result of the invasion Indians stopped hunting and many tribes became infuriated. Indian response classified them as either "treaty" Indians or "non-treaty" Indians. "Treaty" Indians were the ones that their chief agreed to comply with the "reservation" policy so they signed it and took it to its people. The "non- treaty" Indians were the ones who refused to sign the policy and as a result would go to war with the U.S Army. In order to protect the "treaty" Indians they created the Department of Interior which was responsible for keeping the national security. This Department includes what is called the Bureau of Indians that provides education services to Indians.

Throughout time, the Natives have been treated differently like an individual nation granted free by the U.S. as equal U.S. citizens, yet not treated as equal. In 1783 when the U.S. gained their independence from Great Britain not only did they gain land from the Appalachian Mountains but conflict over the Indian policy and what their choice was to do with them and their land was in effect. All the way from the first presidents of the U.S. to later in the late 19th century the treatment of the Natives has always been changing. The Native Americans have always been treated like different beings, or savages, and have always been tricked to signing false treaties accompanying the loss of their homes and even death happened amongst tribes.     Natives were forcefully removed from their land in the 1800’s by America. In the 1820’s and 30’s Georgia issued a campaign to remove the Cherokees from their land.
