Air Traffic Controllers: Safety in the Skies
This summer, I went on my first flight, when my sister and I flew to L.A. to visit family. From the moment I stepped into the airport, my mind started filling with questions about how the planes worked and how everything processed without any problems. I had never been exposed to anything like it before. When I go to the airport, I love the energy of everyone hustling and bustling to get where they need to go. It’s fascinating for me to watch the planes take off and land. I’m probably the only person you’ll ever meet who loves going through security. The airport is probably in my top 10 favorite places to go. I can never get bored at an airport. However, when I stepped onto my flight, the nerves set in. I was alone, with my 11 year old sister on a plane for the first time. Granted it was a direct flight and I knew where I was meeting my family when we landed, but it was scary to think that a few people were going to hurtle this massive hunk of steel down a runway, then fly it at 500 mph, almost 400 miles down the coast of California. I was afraid. Then I looked out my window and saw the control tower. Again, I had a bunch of questions about who was in there and what they did. I thought that would be such a cool job, to get to watch planes land and take off all day while you are telling them how to do it. That is how I found the career of being an air traffic controller.
Air traffic controllers control the aircraft within certain airspace and guide planes through their routes and around hazards. There are two different kinds of air traffic controllers, tower controllers and radar controllers. Tower controllers (the type that I’m most interested in) use their eyes, headset communications,...

“What time should we leave? Two hours in advance? Three? Four?” Millions of people ask these questions each year before boarding a plane. Between driving, security, walking to the gate, and getting settled, boarding a plane exhausts travelers. But out of all of these different activities, one frustrates and restrains travelers the most: TSA security. People ask why they need all this security, complain about the inconvenience it causes, and ultimately annoys people to no end. Created after 9/11, Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, nationalized airport security, increased screening duration, and supposedly increases security on flights. However, statistics say these added security measures never come to fruition and potentially cost more lives than they save.
The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is one of the largest airports in the world and is the main hub for Delta Air Lines, one of the largest airlines in the world. This case study will examine the relationship between demand and capacity for the home hub of Delta Air Lines. Future predictions for air travel estimate enormous growth rates as high as 50% by the year 2025. Airlines, airports, and the entire air-travel infrastructure will be challenged with the task of keeping up with this level of demand as we move towards the future.
According to the International Air Transport Association, 2001 was only the second year in the history of civil aviation in which international traffic declined. Overall, it is believed that the IATA membership of airlines collectively lost more than US$12 billion during this time (Dixon, 2002).

The beginning of the FAM program can be attributed to one singular event. On May 1st 1961 an event would take place that would change the way the US would approach aviation security forever. “The flight for National Airlines was prepared for departure from Miami International Airport t...

As a medical assistant you may work in a clinical or administrative environment. Clinical medical assistant’s duties may include taking vital signs of patients, conducting in-office screening tests, collecting and preparing specimens to send to diagnostic laboratories, recording medical histories, and administering medications. The work environment may be in a hospital or a physician office along a physician. Administrative medical assistant’s duties may include updating patient records, greeting patients, setting appointments, calling in prescriptions or refills as directed by the doctor, answering phones, and arranging for diagnostic testing or other procedures. Their work environment is usually in an office setting focusing on making sure the medical practice is running smooth. At the end of the day it is just more expensive to hire a, nurse and a secretary when you can somewhat have the best of both worlds with a medical assistant. With the demand for more health services medical assistants can assist doctors in a clinical and administrative manner to allow more patients to be seen.

Flying thousands of feet up in the sky is a dream of many young children, but very few actually end up as a pilot when they grow up. Commercial airline pilots will always be needed, but many people do not even think about choosing this as a career. Pilots have extremely important jobs. They must fly people place to place with no problems while at the controls of thousands of pounds of metal and flammable fuel, not to mention the many passengers. A pilot’s job is very risky, but it is also very rewarding.
“Flight 208 to Los Angeles is now boarding. Section N you may now take your seats”. You looked down at your carry-on bag to make sure you have everything packed up, even though you took nothing out, and headed toward the flight attendant and handed her your ticket. As your walking through the tunnel, the sound of the planes jets put just enough pressure on your body, causing your pulse to increase. “Why are you nervous, you been on planes before”, you ask yourself. You shake your head and start to inhale and before you could finish getting your lungs to the maximum capacity they could hold, a man wearing a white shirt twice his size and jeans that also seemed
The definition of a pilot is a person who operates the flying controls of an aircraft.Being a pilot is a hard a career to get into it is hard to learn all the things that are needed and the being able to find a job is just as hard(PEA).The job of being an aviator is also learning to be copilot.Being a copilot is a lot harder though, believe it or not. The mission of a co-pilot is to make sure the passengers are comfortable and to greet them as they are coming aboard the plane the other part is making sure that you are all set for take off ,this includes checking your fuel and going over the controls and mapping out the flight plan,(PEA). Then when you get up in the air it becomes a whole lot harder the pilot must make sure that you stay on the strict course and that you are not straying off the plan. When the passengers are aboard the plane the co-pilot or the stewards are usually the ones who explain the course of flight and to tell you to fasten your seatbelt. The job of being in the air force is also a hard and strenuous job job. It takes a lot of nerves to be able to handle the job. You have to be able to live with yourself when you shoot the other plane out of the air. Imagine going through the air when out of nowhere another plane fly’s by shooting at you, what are you going to do? Try to take it? No you are going to have to attack back and defend yourself. How would you like to live with yourself after knowing that you just sent a man to his death? But on the other side you are defending your country...
