The Problem of Air Pollution
Air pollution is the biggest problem in the world. The definition of
air pollution is "The presence in the atmosphere of one ormore
contaminants as is injurious, or tends to be injurious, to human
health or welfare, animal or plantlife." Acid rain and smog are the
two major effects of air pollution. The main source of air pollution
comes from industry, which causes a lot of problems for plants,
animals, and human beings. Thermal power plants, refineries, petro
chemicals and mines release dangerous pollutants into the air; for
instance, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxedes and lead.
Burning coal, producing paper or smelting metal cause terrible
pollution too.
Private houses and office buildings are also responsible for air
pollution. When chemical and synthetic materials are used for
construction, air pollution can become a problem. Smoking, cooking,
burning coal or wood in the house cause indoor air pollution. If the
ventilation is poor, it's even worse.
In addition, active volcanos, desert storms and forest fires make air
pollution.
Acid rain, smog, and greenhouse effect cause air pollution. Acid rain
is a mixture of sulphuric and nitric acid, which is in snow, rain and
fog. It affects soil, water, plants, buildings, and the health of
animals and people badly.
Smog is fog that contains smoke and ozone. It is found in areas where
there are high temperatures, heavy traffic, and occurs mostly during
winter time when there is less wind. The reaction of ozone, nitrogen
oxide, carbon monoxide with heat and sunlight produces smog. During
the industrial revolution, 500 people died of smog in London. A few
years later, 1000 people died when the smog lasted for three days. In
1952, 4000 people died there when smog lasted for almost a week.
The greenhouse effect causes air polluton also. It increases the
world's temperature, as there is too much carbon dioxide and not
enough oxygen because of pollutants in the air.
Smog causes many health problems. Most of all respiratory problems
There are many kinds of air pollution. The ones I want to talk about are the ozone, acid rain, carbon monoxide and toxic air contaminants. Ozone is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react in sunlight. Therefore, ozone is at its peak during hot summer days. Exposure to high levels of ozone can have serious consequences on your health. It can cause respiratory disease, loss of pulmonary elasticity, and premature aging of our lungs. Next, is acid rain, which occurs in the atmosphere in the form of sulfur and nitrogen oxide. These pollutants can have serious damaging affects on aquatic, forest and wildlife ecosystems, as well as deterioration of buildings. Carbon monoxide is another form of pollution. It reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. If a human is exposed to higher levels, it can cause chest pains, angina attacks or even death.
Over hanging smog is one of the major signs of air pollution in a city. Air pollution presence differ from city to another, air pollutant can be classified as well in terms of its visibility, visible or invisible, Despite of the different form, air pollution is a major contributor to global warming. Air pollution can be defined as "the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or damages the natural environment into the atmosphere" (Air Pollution, 2010).
Air pollution is caused by many things such as car fumes, burning of fossil fuels,
Transportation by car though, is the major source of air pollution. Early in the century human invented, internal combustion engine, engine that use fuel as gasoline or diesel. Those engines were used to manufacture an automobile for fast travel from one place to another. Because they were not much in use, those few cars were not enough to threat the environment. Those engines were not fast enough so mastermind humans invented bigger and faster engines and those take more fuel. When these engines burn fuels they introduce smoke and other, less visible, by products. Once they are released into the air, the products of incomplete combustion, particulate matter (soot, ash, and other solids), unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, various nitrogen oxides, ozone, and lead, undergo a series of chemical reactions in the presence of sunlight. The result is the dense haze characteristic of smog. “Smog may appear brownish in color when it contains high concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, or it may look blue-gray when it contains large amounts of ozone” (Danger).
One of the most dangerous environment issues Southern California is facing today is air pollution. This includes the burning of fossil fuels and natural disasters. Los Angeles is one of the most polluted cities in the world, and the most polluted city in the United States. I will research information about the causes, the effects, and the history of air pollution in the Los Angeles. For my research, I have relied mostly on, the school’s database and library, as well as current events.
Air pollution is a well-known problem throughout the world. Humans know that we are the major cause for air pollution and although we know this fact, we continue to pollute. We poison our air every day by throwing out enormous piles of garbage, burning tons of fossil fuels, and driving millions of miles each year, but do we truly know how much this affects our society and our Earth? Smog, acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and ozone depletion are some of the effects that have resulted from air pollution. Health effects caused by filthy air are also a serious problem that has resulted from pollution.
Air pollution has become very costly environmental problem in terms of both human lives and in terms of billions of dollars lost for health-care expenditure and crop damage.
The environmental issue that I’ve chosen is air pollution. Air Pollution is a huge environmental issue not only in the United States but all over the world. I picked this issue because of the affect that it has on our entire world. This is a highly important issue that people should be aware of because of the huge effect it has on practically everyone. In my essay I will address what air pollution is and how it starts, I will talk about which cities have high pollution verses cities with low pollution, what’s being done to change, and the affect it has on humans, animals, and our earth.
Every person in this world want to breathe clean air because this basic requirements of human health, but now a day's humans breathe polluted air. While every day human polluted the environment and the air with his activity. These harmful actives which causes by human are called pollution. The problem of air pollution has become a real problem for many reasons. Most smoke of air pollution comes from transportation and factories, which mean people is causes air pollution by human activities. In this essay I will examine Air Pollution in our world. Also, I will focus in three areas: the causes of air pollution, the effect of air pollution and the solution of air pollution. In addition, Scientists saw with increasing CO2 in the atmosphere through
In recent decades, air pollution has increasingly become a problem in modern cities. Air pollution is any type of gas released in big enough quantities that it becomes detrimental to human health. In the People’s Republic of China it has become one of the leading causes of death. High-levels of particulates and sulfur dioxide are recorded in many Chinese cities. These cities are often regarded as the most polluted in the world. Much of this pollution is generated by power plants and automobiles unregulated by the post-1978 reform era.
The purpose of this paper is to describe the main types of pollution and their effects.
Air pollution: it is causes by the release of chemical waste from the factories, cars in the smoke form into the atmosphere. It includes carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). They are all the poisonous chemical substances that can slowly kill you if we breath in these everyday.
I am doing this paper on air pollution because it 's a serious problem in our lives that we must take action on and start to handle as the serious problem that it is. Air Pollution Is the contamination of the air we breathe everyday. There is two different kinds of air pollution which are the visible pollution and invisible pollution, which both contribute to global warming. The most familiar and visible kind of air pollution is smog, which hangs over cities. The pollution in our air is destroying our planet day by day. Carbon Dioxide which is the smoke that comes from cars, planes, factories, and power plants, is what is polluting our air and causing our planet to warm up. There is other types of greenhouse gasses like methane and sulfur that
One of the world’s biggest problems is air pollution even though many people don’t even give the right attention and many people don’t even know that they are polluting air. Scientific search shows that toxic fumes are the primary cause of skin aging in polluted cities. Air pollution is precipitately ageing the faces of citizens opening up wrinkles and age spots. This is nothing compared to effects that air pollution has in our community. Fossil fuels like oil, coal, and natural gas are the remains of living things from millions of years ago. Researches show that “before the world develop to industrialised by burning fossil fuels the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere was about 0.028%. Whereas now the carbon dioxide released by burning of fossil fuels
Air Pollution is when a poisonous or a harmful substance is released in the air. There are many form of pollution but air is one of them, it only occurs when dust, harmful gases or smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it hard for species like plants, animals and humans to live in a difficult situation because of the dirty air.Air Pollution is classified in two sections, invisible air pollution and visible air pollution.. Hence any substance that makes it difficult for the living things that need the atmosphere is air pollution.Humans have been undergoing air pollution ever since the industrial revolution. In order to understand the causes of Air pollution, it is divided into divisions. Primary air pollutants and secondary air pollutants:
