The AIDS epidemic has powerfully hit the workplace especially in places that have large populations; the rate of infected people is one in twenty-five workers. Many employers have adopted a fearful technique of handling the AIDS issue. Acting with panic and forming a prejudice against infected employees is a common reaction for most coworkers (Repa 7/49).
“Discrimination often continues with-homophobic comments and jokes, lectures about upholding the company image, promotions denied, and jobs lost” (Repa 7/49). Despite Article seven of the Universal Declaration of Human rights that states “All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law”, AIDS infected employees continue to face daily prejudice in the workplace (Rights 7).
